Chances of getting into Hogwarts Next Year

Anonymous
My DC is 10 years old and she isn't scoring very well on her Scantron Owls. Is there any hope that she will get in to any house other than Hufflepuff? I am wondering if she would do better in a tier 2 school. Are there any prep classes that could help? Unfortunately, we have no ties to the ministry and are both muggles. Also, my DD is deathly allergic to dogs and I heard a horrible rumor about a three headed dog. I'm wondering if a tier 2 school might be better option in any case for us due to safety. I am not a fan of the Triwizard Tournament.

Well there are other options, you can always consider the public wizardry options: http://vimeo.com/54162829

Can she get on the Quidditch coach's short list? Invite him out to your country club for butterbeer and hint that your resources at Gringots are tier 1 worthy.

If she is interested in studying abroad, what about Beauxbatons?

Not interested in single sex school. She is also non fluent in french. I was thinking of donating a Firebolt to the annual giving campaign. I got a great deal on a box for the Quidditch World Cup ( people are still upset by the lack of control by the ministry at the last one) which I could donate. We are not big Quidditich fans. Would donating items a year in advance help my chances or would it make me look desperate? Or should I donate at my current school and get a recommendation? BTW- Our DD is really bright just doesn't test well. We would really like Ravenclaw or Gryffindor. I don't think she would do well in Slytherin as there are too many mean girls.

This is what happens when women from Assburn, Des Moines and stockton CA stumble onto a web page created for residents of the District of Columbia. They migrate over from the expectant moms forum and then can't handle what they read iin Independent Schools

Then they decide it can't be true because it doesn't reflect their lives in BeigeTown and North Bumblefuck Estates, and they attempt humor and mockery.

Wow, I thought this was more satire until your last sentence. Way to be uptight!

I hear if your child has a strong will to be in one house over another, The Sorting Hat will take that into consideration. So I would start talking up Gryffindor to get it into her head.

The video promoting materials for Beauxbatons are misleading. The written brochure actually states that it is co-ed.

I would invite both Pr. McGonagall and Pr. Flitwick to dinner, talk to her about your DD, etc. Also maybe do some intensive tutoring with some Hogwarts Prefects (that will cost you serious Galleons, though!).
Think well about what you really want for your DD: is it better to finish top of her class in Hufflepuff than last in Ravenclaw or Griffindor? What will her career prospects be? Muggle liaison jobs mostly come out of Hufflepuff house - they don't go for the flashy posts and are willing to put in the time, plus, with Muggle parents she'd be a shoe-in.

Anyway, just a few thoughts.
