Anyone here read the Prince of Petworth blog?

And have you noticed how awful the censorship is? I have never posted anything bigoted or derogatory on that site, but my comments routinely get deleted if they seem to strike a nerve with the blogger. For instance, on one of the posts where they have you make up captions to a photo, I posted a comment asking if the person in the photo knew this photo was being used for the contest... because quite honestly, it was just a bunch of people making fun of the subject of the photo. This comment was promptly deleted. Then I posted a comment asking why it was deleted and that comment was quickly deleted.

This has happened to me often enough that I can't go on that site anymore. The commenters are what make that blog successful and I feel that PoP is some kind of censorship-loving control freak. I understand he can run the blog however he wants, but it just seems wrong.

I read the blog daily but rarely comment. I've never noticed comments being deleted. Given the tone of the comments that I routinely see there, I'm surprised they are doing any moderating at all. One thing that I would say is that moderating public comments is really tough as I know from this site. I also don't like the term "censorship" to be used to describe comment moderation.

I read it all the time. It's really informative and I learn a lot there. What I can do without is the "daily animal fix" or whatever it's called. I've never noticed undue censorship. There are a ton of snarky comments; it rivals DCUM for that. It skews a little bit hipsterish and young for me, but I still find out a ton about my city there.

I agree. If I needed a daily "animal fix" I would rape my cat. Other than that I like the site.

Totally agree on the animal fix - I wish he would cut that. who wants to look at pictures of other people's animals?!

I have been bothered by a few things over the years, like when he showed closeups of a man who was killed on sherman avenue, and he actually showed the face of the dead man. It showed a total lack of respect and I thought a real journalistic immaturity (or general immaturity). Like the family of the man wanted their dead son's picture on a blog for everyone to find interesting.

but I've come around and i really like the blog, and I think the blogger is probably a good guy. i'm actually really surprised to hear that he was editing out comments critical of himself, that doesn't jive with my impression, but i'd like to see if other people say the same thing. if he's doing a lot of that, i'll stop reading the blog.

OP, I never went on there much, but I did notice that a few of my comments disappeared. I have no problem with Dan deleting the racist, homophobic, etc ones but I remember asking a question about the blog on the comments section and it was posted for like 5 mins then disappeared. It wasn't particularly accusatory, just a question.

Sounds like a huge queen! Sorry to hear.

I used to like it but now 75% of the content is either animal posts or reposting press releases about restaurant openings.

These people are the baby DCUMers. They will be here in a few years. Entitlement is the name of the game.

Right now they are complaining about landlords, and fees from their rental companies. There are endless posts about "IS THIS LEGAL? Homeless people are hanging out in my alley. What can I do?" Or stolen bike.

In a couple of years they'll be all NIMBY this and NIMBY that, what's the best charter school, etc etc etc.

So true!! "Some old guy told me that I couldn't lock up my fixie bike to his fence anymore. IS THIS LEGAL????" The 'old guy' being 'not 26 years old but an actual property owner in Shaw who paid for that fence.'

Love it!

Yes...I've had the same experience of the original poster on this thread and I think it's totally wrong. There are advertisers on that site who, I'm sure, are not aware of the blatant censorship. I'm done with PoP.

I find the commenters rival Gawker's in their self-satisfied yet ill-informed attitudes.
