GT/AAP Decisions: JUST THE SCORES, PLEASE!

Anonymous
This rumor seems implausible - 1200 to 2200, which is nearly double the number of 98th+ percentile scores in only one years' time?? Even with prepping, is it possible to bring that many kids up to the 98th+ percentile? I agree with PPs that this is likely the handiwork of our resident troll. Not surprisingly, the troll has yet to post any facts to substantiate her post.

They will simply enlarge the number of AAP classrooms, if indeed the huge pool is not a rumour propogated by a troll who enjoys inserting extra doubt and anxiety into the process. I agree totally with PP . . . If you're not a troll, name the principal.

who are you to say this? a troll?

Just like last year, when called upon to name names, the troll demurs and deflects.

Does anybody have more information on when the scores will be mailed out?

Historically things seem to have been mailed out on Fridays. Maybe someone could call the AAP central office and ask?

Last year my son's scores and in pool letter both arrived on the Tuesday after MLK weekend. Separate envelopes, from the county not the school.

At the school's AAP screening workshop on Jan. 11, the AART teacher said there was a delay this year in the process, and they have not dtermined which kdis were in the pool yet. The decision is supposed to come to the principal next Monday (11/16), so the letter to parents would be at least a week later.

Wow. If there is a one week delay, the Feb.3 timeline for submitting document would be very tight. I wonder if the delay is related to the high number of qualified kids this year.

Thanks for posting this. I seem to recall there was a similar delay two (or was it three?) years ago in getting scores back from the processing center. I had heard parents were counseled to prepare a referral just in case there were concerns if a child was going to be in-pool or not.

PP: I will also add that the extra effort from putting a package together to support your in-pool child vs parental referral is one form.

[list]Look at this!
They used a new form of the CogAT this year. After viewing the sample questions from this form vs. the sample questions available for the old form, the new test looks much easier than the older as it's largely picture based. I wouldn't be surprised if the scores were higher than previous years.

Here are sample questions from the new form...

No worries. It takes a troll to know a troll.

I can verify this -- it was stated by the principal at Churchill Road Elementary at our PTA meeting last Wednesday, which I attended. I can't recall the exact numbers but it sounds similar to what the other poster stated, something like 1000 more in-pool. The principal said the county is aware that there are now tutoring/prep companies out there, particularly in certain pockets of the county, and is debating how to handle this. It should be in the meeting minutes on the CRS PTA website sometime in the next few weeks if you're still dubious.
