Why is Northeastern (NEU) so popular with both parents and students these days?

The acceptance rate likely will be 1.5 to 2% this year, I wouldn't be surprised if drops as low as 0.5% in the coming year or two.

Bragging rights for attending northeastern? Now I have heard of everything.

Oh it’s a thing. People get dupped into thinking their artificially low acceptance rate is impressive.

What is artificial about it? A 2% acceptance rate is still a 2% acceptance rate. Not even Columbia can touch neu, even with 4% acceptance rate.

Now you are just trolling. NEUs acceptance rate is around 7%. But they take 1/3 early decisions, and 1/4 of their class is study abroad which aren't counted. Sure they have an impressive yield of 50%, but factor in its study abroad campuses and its actual acceptance rate is 15% or so. Much much different than 2%

+1 It is hard to get into, but not 2% hard.

This thread is predictably off the rails but I can't believe anyone is using NEU in the same sentence as truly selective schools.

Don't fall for the hype people. It's a slick marketing machine with a super high tuition. I am sure some kids are getting a decent education there but the fact that someone needs to rip apart anyone with anything even remotely negative to say about it should tell you something.

It's a good private college hovering around T50 located in Boston.

For some reason a DCUM poster or two is threatened by this.

No one is claiming that it's Harvard or MIT or anything.

Why are you trying to save the world from Northeastern? You sound unhinged.

The negative comments on this thread are insane. Boosters are understandable. The poster(s) that can’t help responding again and again. It seriously looks like nothing more than very sour grapes. Hard to take the haters seriously. If you don’t like the school don’t go there. Simple solution.

+1. Agree, and there are several of us that agree. If I were the mod, I would not give the mentally ill OP, and those like them, a platform (which serves to sully a board that could be very useful, if not for OP and those like OP). To them I say: I am sorry you did not get into the school you wanted to, but to post about with so many inaccuracies, and such conviction, tells us that the posts are not about the school, at all, but OP (and those like them)'s mental illness. Your inability to let it go is hurting your children. Your children know how disappointed you are in them, which is quite sad. As a parent, that should be the part that bothers you (not a school they did not get into).

I think the unhinged Northeastern hater is the same oddball older mother that attacks UChicago for their early decision admission system. For some reason she is hell bent on repeatedly saying negative things about certain schools.

If you think Northeastern sucks, just state the facts why you think it sucks and then move on. Having to make up nonsensical aspersions is so strange. And to repeatedly attack anyone who says something positive about the school makes the OP look so small and infantile.

No one is attacking the "positive" posters. I am done with this thread. You NEU boosters are something.
Anonymous
There is just one NEU parent on here boosting the place over and over. She is clearly worried that people still think the school is horrible. Do not judge the school either positively or negatively by what this person says.

To add, this thread seems like a bunch of disgruntled, rejected moms came together and ganged up on someone whose kid was admitted. Not a good look - the gaslighting, the pattern predictability - all quite fixated and sick. There are no "boosters", only posters (plural) - who do not know each other (novel idea) and who are tired of the same threads, and the irrational behaviors. It would be a shame if one of the people being ganged up upon defended themselves...

Every time NEU is so much as mentioned it is a thread killer. Do ya'll just come to DCUM to search NEU and then dive in like magpies?

I agree with this 99% however, I think it's only ONE person, posing as multiple, that is totally coo-coo about her hatred of NEU.

If positive claims are unfounded they should be corrected. It’s the negative comments that tend to be inaccurate.

One poster said his son is at NE and enjoys the Beanpot which made one crank write that BU and BC don’t even consider NE competition or something. Inaccurate. NE won the last two tournaments and five out of the last seven. This doesn’t say anything about the academics of the school but someone just couldn’t help themselves with a negative comment.
