Is there any way that Trump could retain power? And, also, why are people still backing him?

Exactly. Potential 2024 candidates need Trump’s base to win. It’s going to be sad when Don Jr runs and the only way to compete is to have opposed Trump during this time.

Measures have to be put in place so what we are witnessing can never happen again.

What? Presidents have as much freedom of speech as you and I do. Presidents have as much right to file BS in courts as you and I do. This could happen again.

Well no, usually when you lie to the court, file baseless lawsuit after lawsuit, and re-file the same suits in federal court that you lost in state court, you get in trouble. Judges hate this shit. Their “lawyers” should be sanctioned.

Also, it’s not usual to use the DOJ to try to overturn an election, as is happening now. Or refusing to sign over funds for transition, as is also happening.

Yes, they can say what they want, but he like all would br autocrats, he is probing cracks in our system to undermine it. We need to strengthen our system to make it harder to do.

Of course he can retain power. He can simply refuse to exit, and 98% of his appointees will never openly take him on. The Democratic Party is busy appealing for “unity” and “reconciliation,” which is not the way we defeated Hitler. DOJ’s top election lawyer just quit after being illegally ordered to falsely prosecute pretend election crimes. In January 20, Trump will be inaugurated as President again, and he will immediately announce an indefinite term of office to address his made-up national security emergencies. It’s all done already.

Lol OK.

I agree we face serious, serious treason. But this is NOT how it will go down.

This. Then if he has not conceded and either the litigation continues or we have a tie in the Electoral College, i believe will we have what’s known as a contingent election. Apparently this has a few types, two of which are discussed here. If you’re really into it, I’m sure there are some more detailed academic articles and you could always read the Constitution.

If the litigation remains pending, then I believe Pelosi (or her successor) becomes President temporarily. By contrast, if we have a tie in the Electoral College, then I think Democrats have a problem because the House votes for President, with each state’s delegation getting one vote. Republicans control more state delegations than Democrats, so they’d have more votes and would protege this Trump. But don’t take my word for certain because I’m just beginning to read up on this myself.

Typo. “.... and would probably elect Trump.”

The election defense fund he is creating is actually how he is paying off his election debt. It says so in the fine print.

Candidates often have debt after campaigns but they don't usually lie to supporters about using their money to pay it off.

No. He will not be President at noon on January 20. The likelihood of the GOP managing to change 37 electoral votes is really, really tiny.

Do you have a link to the bolded?

I'm very hard-pressed to see a scenario where the electors don't vote on December 14th.

I’m pretty upset about the shat Trump is doing but this right here is why I believe McConnell and others are eventually going to walk Trump out. Let’s be clear, if Trump tries to steal the election, we will see multiple slates of electors for the same states. If Trump tries to steal electors, the electors will stop being counted. They’re done by state in alphabetic order. AZ is the third state to be counted. If the count stops there then we would have a President Pelosi. Trump CANNOT take power in a second term without Pelosi allowing it. This has never been an issue before because the loser has always accepted the will of the people BUT Trump is risking not only losing power but having a very angry President Pelosi for the next two plus years coming after his butt. He’d do much better with Biden.
