Shutdown Rhetoric

It's f*ing unbelievable that after causing confusion with his sh*thole/sh*thouse (whatever!) comment and this morning saying that CHIP should not be part of a CR and basically torpedoing any chance for a bipartisan bill, the fool is off to PA to campaign for special election. The government is inches away to shutting down. SMH.

If the Democrats want to hold the budget hostage because they want a DACA deal then shame on them. Deal with DACA separately. Shame an any party that continues to tack different agendas together as a way to fight the other side. The spending bill doesn't, and shouldn't, have anything to do with DACA.

Do you know why DACA is an issue today? Because the GOP was never once willing to put it to the floor for a vote, so no.

Exactly. The GOP as a whole hasn't acted in good faith on this issue at any point along the way. Dems would be fools to believe that if they pass this resolution the GOP will start negotiating sincerely on DACA.

After all, Susan Collins is still waiting on Obamacare stabilization, and the GOP isn't even pretending to keep their word on that one.

There is a viable proposal for dealing with DACA but it needs funding for the wall/enhanced border security, limiting chain migration, and cutting back on the number of new immigrants by limiting to a merit based system without regard to country of origin. If these are part of the legislation the DACA kids can be given right of residence and a pathway to citizenship.

So DACA beneficiaries are just pawns to achieve other ends. Got it.

DACA beneficiaries are getting a break if legislation passes. What is required is to take measures to minimize the likelihood of it happening again.

Democrats don't REALLY want to force a shutdown, because what these shutdowns always seem to do is demonstrate how irrelevant Congress and the government are most of the time anyway.

Essential services still have to be funded, debt ceiling increase or not. The social security checks will continue to be issued. The military will continue to be funded.

This is not the hill to die on for the Dems.

If you are referring to the Graham-Durbin compromise proposal, Trump has already nixed that. 100% of Americans would have supported that proposal., well, everyone but trump and I guess Stephen Miller.

No, that proposal did not have sufficient funding for border security and on top of that it included granting the right of residence to the parents of the DACA beneficiaries which went way beyond what was ever contemplated.

Sounds about right for Trump. At least he isn’t golfing.

Naive question but I haven’t seen anything about sequestration. Has that been rescinded? If not, how can Defence spending be increased? And what about the deficit? With tax reform, I don’t understand why freedom caucus is pressing for more military spending when there is now less money to spare.

You know they're human beings, right? Human beings who are innocent victims in this? They're not things, they're not trash, they're actual human beings, just like you, with just as much inherent value as you have.

They are in the country illegally ..... they have no more right to reside in this country on a permanent basis than any other foreigner.

You are sending them back to a country they don’t remember or have ties to, in many cases. If they came here as children, they are for all intensive purposes citizens.

Which is why an attempt is being made to help them out but it is an imperative that we minimize the possibility that it happens again and with the Democratic party being captive to the Hispanic lobby nothing will get passed in the way of meaningful border security without including DACA as part of the deal.

Through no fault of their own. So they are supposed to cover for the sins of their parents? And this after we have educated them and they are serving as teachers and in uniform etc? That makes no sense.
