Mark Cuban nailed it when he explained why Trump resonates with many Republicans

Other nations would not tolerate Trump's bullshit.

What would Trump do in Syria, for example? Would he stay away, or send in our troops?

It is entertaining to see a rich guy just saying whatever he wants. He hits a nerve with some disgruntled voters. But when push comes to shove, the GOP will need a happy warrior like Kasich to have any semblance of a chance.

Saying whatever you want might result in a few fans, but more often it just pisses people off. Whether the pissed-off are our foreign allies, our foreign enemies, whether industry, or other politicians and officials - he will end up alienating tons of people, and they will all work against him. Trump would ramp up the obstruction and dysfunction even worse than it already is.

Perhaps, but he won't be president. And methinks our foreign enemies will continue to hate us regardless of who occupies the White House.

You guys are being simplistic: Trump does what he is currently doing because it is working for him in terms of his polling and support. He did not achieve the success he did by pissing off everyone. As he said, he has donated money to Democrats and Republicans because that is the way the system works in getting things done.

In the unlikely event be becomes president, I fully expect that he will realize that pragmatism will get him further in his dealings with other countries. His present rhetoric and approach is geared to what works in getting Republican support - and at this point he has been very successful.

Time and again I see this in American politics as an outside observer. The voters fall in love with the personality and his/her uniqueness and speeches. Yes, a candidate may be strikingly different and unique in how she or he talks or comes across.

However!!

You guys have a political system that is categorically unsuited for unbridled legislative expression of personal views. The web of checks and balances that is American politics makes it basically impossible for the president to do what he wants without getting the approval of a thousand more people. In the process of getting this approval, what he wants to do is inevitably diluted, modified or sometimes canned altogether. This is why you see so many elected presidents going back on what they promised during the campaign. It's not because they lied, it's because they discovered the harsh truth that even as president, you can NOT do what you want. Your powers are limited because it is impossible to do what you want without gaining support from other stakeholders.

I don't really care what Mark Cuban thinks about Trump or anything else. More disturbing is the focus group of Trump supporters interviewed in NH. Most of these people were lower or middle class folks who said they supported Trump because he is "one of us". When asked what a Trump presidency would look like, they answered, "classy", "the debt clock will go down", "he will get rid of all of these departments and things".

It turns out that focus group was faked. Only one member of the group was a Trump supporter. The others were prodded to say positive things about Trump and then those snippets were edited together to create a false impression:

That is really disgraceful. I thought Heilemann and Halparin had more journalistic integrity than that, but clearly they do not. I saw this "focus group" clip on Morning Joe, which has spent the entire week doing nothing but promoting Trump, interspersed with stories about Hilary's declining favorability ratings. That show is really bad now.

Trump is beholden to no one. He is unscripted. He speaks his mind. It is so refreshing.

I am so tired of the boring, scripted, safe, boring pols. Hillary is the worst offender.

Hillary is not going to win because of this.

Hillary will win because the ruling elite wants her there. She will give them no restrictions on Wall Street, unlimited immigration, and the multiple trade partnerships that move jobs out of the US.

This is such an emotional, irrational evaluation of Trump.

He yells at people and that makes you feel good inside. Guess what, you can't yell at countries and get them to do anything. You can't yell at Congress and get your legislation passed. You can't yell at companies and get them to increase hiring. You can't yell at supermarkets and cause them to lower prices. You can't yell at OPEC and get them to increase output.

Do you know what Hillary really believes about anything? Not what she is spewing out at any point in time because that is scripted and she has been told what to say by her handlers.

One of the major decisions she ever had to make was whether to authorize the invasion of Iraq and she not only f'ed that up but refused to acknowledge it for years after the vote.

Does she have any core beliefs or does she just play to the gallery based on what is in vogue at any point in time?

Trump has pissed a lot of people off and has made a ton of enemies getting to where he is. That will only scale up to far more pissed off people and far more enemies. He is the complete antithesis of pragmatism. He is an impulsive hothead who I would want NOWHERE NEAR something like nuclear missile launch.

There is a reason that politicians are more careful about their words. If politicians could shoot off their mouth, refuse to apologize, and get praised for it, they would all be doing it.

Trump has spent most of his life chewing people out without repercussions. And because he's a billionaire, it all works out. Everybody around him is his employee in one form or another. But in politics, the public is in charge. Make one misstatement and it will be quoted back to you for the rest of your career. 47%, spread the wealth, legitimate rape, I didn't inhale. That shit stays with you forever.

If he loses his cool on the wrong person at the wrong time, he's screwed.

yeah, but what if you make 5000 "misstatements"? it's just the same old, same old... something like that happened with biden.
