Getting caught with a hooker giving you a blow job while Elizabeth Hurley is your long-time girlfriend.

Am I that old that I am the only one that remembers this?

I don't think he's the most amazing actor ever, but does have a likeable air.

And Colin Firth is hot in an older, smoldering, sexy-accent kind of way.

~cough, cough~ Some of us don't think he's really that much older, LOL.

Agreed. This made me curious so I just looked it up on IMDB and Hugh Grant (9/9/60) and Colin Firth (9/10/60) were born a day apart!

OMG -- they are both almost 50!

I remember that, too - but I also remember that he and his publicity team handled it with aplomb and his career bounced back better than it was before. And also that that scandal pretty much made Jay Leno's career, which is really fucking annoying.

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Actually there's something way wrong with that math.

Yeah, they are both almost 54!

Oh, good catch. I should have checked that poster's math before commenting. Not that there's anything wrong with 53-54 either.

It's one thing to say he's not to your taste or not attractive to you. It's another thing to call him "ugly." I mean, come on.

I'm the "dour" poster but not the "ugly" poster. I don't think he's ugly, I'm just not moved by him.

Hugh Grant could churn out British formula rom-coms every year and I'd see every one of them.

Leno's whole "what were you thinking"?

sometimes its better to just go ahead and take your licks like a man and you will be forgiven/loved again. i agree though with your annoyance at this being the highlight of jay's career.

I can't remember where I read this, but apparently he was such an asshole on the Daily Show set while promoting some terrible recent movie (the one about the witness protection program I think?) that they will never have him back.

Yeah, Jon Stewart called him the worst Daily Show guest of all time. Hugh Grant responded and agreed with him. Here was Hugh Grant's Twitter response:
"Turns out my inner crab got the better of me with TV producer in 09. Unforgivable. J Stewart correct to give me kicking."

I happened to get tickets to a taping of The Graham Norton Show (a UK late night talk show) that Hugh Grant was a guest on when I was in London a few years ago. He seemed very grumpy then as well. Not rude persay, just sort of a Debbie Downer. He very strongly implied that he didn't really like acting and regretted ever choosing it as his career. This was in 2012 and it looks like he hasn't done much since then, so I guess he's been fulfilling his dream of *not* acting.

He had his first child in fall 2011 and his (ex?) girlfriend was pregnant again in 2012 so maybe that had something to do with his grumpiness. Not that I'm excusing it. Team Mark Darcy!

I've always wondered this about actors - Hugh Grant has a boatload of money and never has to work again. So do some actors just make their money and then retire, only doing bit parts when and if it suits them?

Or is there something about acting that means you're always chasing that next role or next big thing?

Maybe he's just taking it easy? Is that possible?
Anonymous
He's way past ingenue status. He hasn't quite transitioned so well to serious roles like Matthew McConaughey.
