When we first started talking baby names and my husband found out that Abner was a family name...

So this is not a family member of whom your husband had ever heard before you started poking around your respective family trees looking for weird names?

Middle name would be "Louis" or "Charles". Last name Washington.

I am only asking because I don't like the potential for the nickname "Abbie" for a boy, plus it is pretty out there.

It's an old man's name. I know a lot of older names do make a comeback. I don't think this one has yet.

Sorry, OP, no winners out of that bunch. At least give the little guy a fighting chance. If you must go with Abner, make it his middle name and give him a first name that won't get him mocked.
