10:02 posted the best example, the only saving grace of this house is that it does not loom over any nearby neighbors.

To me, a McMansion sits right up against your neighbor's property line with no yardage. It is defined in proportion to your neighbor's appropriately sized houses so a photo of a single house doesn't define a McMansion. I'd have to see the neighbors houses to see the scope. I'd have to see how the huge house sits on its tiny scrap of land.

Agreed, it's hard to determine McMansion status from an image of just the home. It would help to have addresses so we could google image. The Bethesda monstrosity is set right up on a main road with only one other house. It's across from a church.

I agree with this, but I also think of McMansions being in new sub-divisions where every house is large and right on top of each other. Kind of like Brambleton where my friend lives. Perfectly nice house, but they ALL look exactly the same. Like this:

I'm hoping to see someone post a picture of my McMansion!

Anything that looks like the house is photobombing a photo of the garage, like this:

What's wrong with that one? Maybe its not perfect, but it hardly seems in a league with the other examples posted here.

everything... garage front and center, towers over the neighbor house, cheap materials, more stupid roof points than you coudl imagine, and of course fake arts and crafts detailing that makes no sense...

For starters, check out how close it is to the much smaller house on the left. Then, the combo of siding and stoneface is a hallmark of the McMansion. And I hate houses with those slanty curved roofs like that, but that might just be my issue.

This one is in my hood. This was actually a renovation of an existing rambler, and then the owners split their lot into two parcels and built another ugly house on the property and tried to sell both homes.
