Why do beautiful people have ugly babies?

DD is boy cute, she came out the splitting image of her father, every single feature of her face is his. And he is not a good looking woman.

I knew there was a name, thanks. I am sometimes a little jealous, honestly (coming from blah Irish stock). He is sleek, muscular, naturally thick gorgeous hair and has a fantastic metabolism...things I'd pay good money for!

And of course I get asked all the time if he is adopted...ba ha ha.

I think this is true. My DD was bald for the first year of her life. After her hair grew in, it really complemented her face and softened her features (she has a large head like her daddy). She is gorgeous now.

Bald babies can be very cute. There is a bald baby on Gap that is adorable. I am pretty sure that, proportion-wise, bald babies are over-represented in commercials. Babies with hair often look kind of old (not a good thing for a baby).

ITA! My neighbors are Barbie and Ken. Their preschool aged daughter is very ugly. She is also a spoiled brat too.

DD is 8 months and she has bald patches all over her head and sister just doesn't look quite right. But I can tell that once those bald patches fill in, she'll be a catch.

I agree that often times, babies that are "awkward" looking grow into their features quite well - usually by pre-school. I think some of it is b/c babies have big heads that are so disproportionate to their bodies, it makes them look weird.

But usually by 4-5 you can tell the kids who will have the striking features...

Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Philippe's daughter Ava is gorgeous. She looks exactly like her mother. She is adorable and I bet she'll never have an ugly period. No fair when two gorgeous people get a gorgeous baby too!

Cute kids/babies don't necessarily translate to cute adults, especially for men. I had a classmate who was the cutest young schoolkid you'd ever seen -- big head, huge eyes, small features. He ended up looking kind of like a stocky Elijah Wood with dishwater colored hair. A decent portion of adult beauty is body shape, hair, clear skin, facial bone structure, and you either can't tell this with a baby or can't make any meaningful distinctions because most babies have smooth skin, button noses, and not much hair.
