what do you think of this engagement ring setting?

OP - are you just collecting ideas or planning to actually use these rings? It might be worth it to go to a jeweler to see what type of settings would work for your particular diamond. You may like any of these in the pictures. , but really not like them when you get your diamond in.

I'd be interested in how your diamond looks though, OP. Is it round and flat cut like the one in the pictures? Also, is it just the pictures or do the metal and the stones look kind of cheesy in all these rings?

Oh, I'm a PP too - just realized that the diamond is sticking up in one of those - I don't like that either. I also think the lighting/stones look cheesy and fake. The sapphires seem too bright or something. OP - I would go to a jeweler. Try things on and see what might work with your diamond.

Op here--

Do anyome have any recs for a DC area jeweler that would be good with this sort of thing (resetting a diamond, possibly in an art deco type setting but open to other ideas)?

Really like the side view of the ring. Really don't like the bold "Y" configuration of sapphires.

Yes. Boone & Sons. They have made a couple of rings for me, and they also deal in antique jewelry. They have locations downtown, in Chevy Chase and in McLean. The downtown store is always my first choice. They can do anything you want and we have bought a lot of stuff from them over the years in addition to my rings, had many things (inlcuding an antique pocket watch) appraised there, and consider them our jeweler of choice. We have never had a bad experience with any transaction. One of the rings they made for me was a really big deal for me (the proverbial push present, and it is twice the size of my engagement ring). In a situation in which I was going to be really picky about the end product, they delivered 100%.

Good luck.

I'll second the Boone & Sons suggestion. I prefer the Chevy Chase location though. But, if you choose to go downtown, check out Tiny Jewel Box while you're there. It's only a couple of blocks up Conn. Ave. from the B&S shop. They hit where the example you posted misses. They do that style rather well, and though it's not my taste, I've seen very good examples at TJB.

Good luck to you!

Tiny Jewel Box is usually twice as expensive as Boone & Sons. I find that Boone & Sons will work with you on the price. Tiny Jewel Box prides themselves on being super exclusive.

I do not like either one. They look like a female version of a Super Bowl ring or something to that effect.

one thing to consider; i have a antique setting and love teh way it looks but rarely waer it beacuse it gets caught in stuff all the time and doesnt feel like i can wear it around town.

Quest in Merrifield, VA is wonderful for this kind of thing and reasonably priced too.

BTW, the Forums at Pricescope are wonderful for questions like this.

I love antique/art deco settings.

I would get a matching 1 carat and make them stud earrings and get at least a 2 carat solitaire .
