Parents keep child’s gender under wraps

Hi everyone, in case there are any interested readers in this story, the mother of the "genderless child" gave a response here:

Interesting. Her reply was thoughtful and well-written and, given the amount of criticism the family has been receiving, not even that defensive. I still don't agree with what they are doing because they're hiding the sex, not the gender, of their child. I don't like the status quo but I don't think this is the best way to go about changing it.

?? Not ht eposter you're talking to, but I also visited the link, and there was no virus. Seems like there's something going on with your computer, PP.

The person who posted the link here again. 18:34, not sure why that happened, but like PP said it's probably something to do with your system. That link is to a legit webpage, the Toronto Star, and I've not heard of this problem you mention from anyone else.

I also got some kind of virus message when I clicked on the link.

I didn't get a virus message when I clicked on the link. Perhaps you have an overly sensitive computer that gives a potential virus warning to any website not recognized?

Anyway, I still think the family is a bit nuts. I don't have a problem with ignoring gender stereotypes and allowing boys to play with dolls or like pink or girls to play with trucks... but denying a child has a gender altogether? That has the potential to screw him/her up.

The article quotes the mother as saying that the older children "aren't interested" in Storm's gender or in informing others of his/her gender. Excuse me? That is the first things kids want to know. This makes the rest of her statement -- however well-written -- a bit suspect.

I don't believe for a minute that Storm's brothers aren't interested in sharing his/her sex. The first question they will be asked is was the baby a boy or girl. Also at school kids share all the time about their brothers and sisters. This puts the boys in such an awkward position. I think, in her effort to allow Storm to eventually make his/her own choice on gender, the mother is bring very short sighted wrt the effects on her children overall. I think this is potentially quite damaging.

Oddly in their quest to make this not about gender they made it all about gender.
