For the sake of all of us, Sonia Sotomayor needs to retire from the US supreme court

Just look at recent photos or videos of her. It’s obvious she’s high risk.

Do you really think the Republicans would play along?

Exactly. Whatever she’s currently doing isn’t working for her. She needs a more competent advisor.

Do you really think the Dems played along in 2020? With no filibuster for SCOTUS nominees the minority party is powerless here.

OP, you're an idiot.

This kind of naive belief in institutional norms and lack of strategy has led to the current court we have now. A partisan court that lacks the faith and trust of the American people ( of all political beliefs).

No. Not everything has to be a strategy to get the court YOU want. Let the Justices choose their own retirement time, every single one of them.

No. We have this court because of GOP strategy. Don't be ridiculous. We all now understand hoe critical these justices are to basic rights for our children An aggressive, solid strategy is critical to protecting fundamental rights.

I know a 55 year old man with pretty bad parkinsons disease and diabetes. He takes lots of medication for both. He says his doctors tell him they believe the diabetes will get him before the parkinsons will. People consistently underestimate diabetes. It is a very bad disease, even when treated. Weight and diet are so important but it seems like many diabetics don’t focus on those things.

Never in a million. OP is clearly a Republican, because every Democrat remembers the intriguing cases of Merrick Garland and the handmaiden and their disparate treatment.

And if we’re talking justices who would do us all a favor in retiring, his name is Clarence Thomas. He is both in poor health, a traitor to his country and corrupt like a Victorian judge.

I think this is the answer.

+1. And it is what should happen if Biden loses. Would the Republicans have mechanisms to stall the confirmation process?

If Biden loses in November, you think Sotomayor will immediately announce her retirement and by Jan 20th a new justice will be seated?

Can I have some of whatever you are smoking? It has to be choice.

Lose in November? If we lose to a candidate as awful as Trump twice, nothing else will matter because that will be the official end of the Democratic Party. Liberals and progressives will coalesce behind a new party with better leadership.
