My family wasn’t white trash as suggested above. Mae is an English feminine given name, a variant of May, both rooted in the Roman goddess Maia. In Gaelic and Celtic Mae also means goddess. The Greek goddess Maia was the goddess of nursing mothers. I’m really not sure why some people feel the need to denigrate other people’s names, but there is nothing wrong with the name Mae and no, it is not primarily a nickname although it can be. |
What??? Incredibly stupid comment. It's hard to believe this is true. If it is, it's not some horrible cross to bear and falls firmly in the category of, you can make fun of any name. Having said that, I prefer Mae and I think Mae Matson is fine! |
+1. Arden is a horrible name for a little girl. |
Both are awful. So many pretty girls names. |
I know at least 2 first name Mae's now and it's my DD's middle name. I think it's pretty and not too common. I also like Arden but I don't think it's a name I would use myself. |
Both are way too try hard.
Might as well namer her Maddie or McKenzie ::shudder:: |
How about Maeve or Mabel call her “Mae” |
I love Bertha and Maud |
Check out this list. It has May on it. Also, follow her for name inspiration.:

Ignore those posters! They are super ignorant. They often denigrate old money, aristocratic, European names as "trashy" because they have no knowledge and think the names are new or have new spellings when they don't. Idiots. |
I love both. Would you potentially consider “Arden Mae”? To me, that actually rolled off the tongue nicely. |
I know several female Ardens and it is a lovely name. |
Arden is really dumb, trying too hard to be (cool? sophisticated? what?) but really just sounds like you have something stuck in your throat that you're trying to clear out.
Mae Matthis? Mae Martin Mae Mabray Sounds like a cartoon character. |
Such as? |
My grandfather’s name was Arden so it always reads as a male name to me. |
