***crickets***

Maybe the Niche rankings are right?

Going off of the Sidwell instagram page 33/63 posted students are going to top 25s which is a notably higher percentage than BIM. GDS has more than 40% of the posted class going to top 25s. Much more impressive to do it with a larger class since there is less variance and these schools also don't get nearly the same bump BIM does from having UVA as a top 25 school that your whole class gets to apply to in-state. BIM does not at all deserve its Niche Ranking, also do not believe a good high school experience can be had when your whole grade is smaller than a kindergarten grade at a T3.

The Sidwell instagram is incomplete. Many kids in the bottom of the class are not posting. Plus, a lot of the top admits are hooked, unlike with BIM.

52% of the Sidwell IG posts are T25–now that’s impressive!

I know 3 Sidwell students heading to Ivies who haven’t posted yet (1 Harvard, 1 Columbia, and 1 Penn). I’m sure there are other seniors who will attend Ivies or T25 colleges who haven’t posted…and may not.

Btw, attending Sidwell (the most well known and one of the best privates in the DMV) is its own hook.

Because of various hooks (sports, art, music, legacy, whatever), these school comparisons of Tsomething matriculations are pretty meaningless. Often people do not know about the hooks.

Neighbor kid accepted at an Ivy for STEM with a mix of As and Bs from a good local private. Different kid, same graduating year, better grades and better test scores also for STEM was not accepted. What school and other parents didn't know - because the 1st kid and parents kept quiet - was that 1st kid was a double legacy - parents first met at that same Ivy ugrad and were long-time donors (probably not big money though). This is more common than some people seem to realize.

How do you factor SLAC’s into T25? Just curious….like would you consider Wellesley, Middlebury…?

How many Sidwell students do you know who aren’t attending T25 schools who didn’t post to IG?

😝

Those are T15 SLACs. Were they counted in the 52% T25 percentage for Sidwell students listed above? If not, they should be.

No, I see they weren’t counted. If you include Sidwell students who are attending T25 SLACs, then 42/63 (66%) total are going to T25 National Universities and T25 National Liberal Arts Colleges. This doesn’t include the 4 students going to USC and NYU which were T25 last year (USNWR).

I agree but Sidwell is also not known for its fun highschool years. Its reputation is for having very stressed out overworked kids. It is not known to be a happy place for highschool students either.

51 percent on NCS's, if counting T15 SLACS.

I'd like to see a survey 4 or 10 years out for each of these schools that analyzed: (i) fit and (ii) career results. I know plenty of grads from non-T25 schools who were happy in college and doing quite well after. That is what I want for my kid. Could care less if they go to a DCUM-approved institution.
