College admissions so far

What percentage of the senior class at Sidwell/GDS/STA/NCS has been accepted at a T25?

Maybe BASIS should be officially in the Top 3?

I am the PP and the only horse I have in the race is my reaction to the cringe-worth, obviously intentional and coordinate chorus of trying to prop the school up by bolstering the paid Niche ratings. That’s it.

If the school is great for your child, that’s amazing and wonderful and I’m all for it.

But, the bot-like responses about the Niche ratings and amazingness is, ironically perhaps, the behavior of the government-tied owners of the for-profit school.

Basis is known for significant attrition from (about a third to one quarter) from fifth grade to senior year. This is result of weeding out under-performing students in order to achieve high test scores. Basis is also known for its extended homework hours and emphasis on standardized tests.

No thank you.

***crickets***

Maybe the Niche rankings are right?

You pulled those stats out of thin air. Yes, Basis is a grinder school just like every other private school with excellent college acceptance results (I like how everyone is trying to change the topic when they don’t have anything to say re: BASIS’s college acceptance results). But little to no turnover at the higher grades as students and parents know what they’re looking for going into high school.

I think BASIS is for a particularly academic focused kid who doesn’t care about sports, clubs or what someone may think of as the “school experience”. The focus is academics above all else, almost like a kid that’s home schooled or has a private tutor. I don’t see anything wrong with it if your kid/family fits this mold. Lots of people on this forum seem obsessed with college placement, so if that’s really what’s driving you, more of you should probably come off your high horses and try BASIS.

I did not pull them out of the air. I found them on Wikipedia.

If BIM put their enrollment stats (total and by grade) on their website like other area privates, people could track that. But they don't so they can't.

Really? Please do tell which school talks about the attrition rate from 5th grade to 12th grade.

Of course nobody talks about attrition rate, but BIM is not transparent at all. They don't seem to share a school profile on their website, where most schools share their enrollment data (which would give insight to any possible attrition).

Here is what google found for me looking up a few schools, which all share their enrollment data:

Gonzaga:

Stone Ridge:

NCS:

Georgetown Prep:

BIM website: crickets. If they had posted the data from year one, parents would have seen rollercoaster totals up and down with massive attrition after 8th grade.

Even now, hiding the numbers just looks like hiding. A school in a big turnaround with the new HOS, why not brag their asses off with real facts instead of Niche BS?

Anonymous wrote:Wow—half of the class was accepted to a T25.

Seems like better results than Sidwell, GDS, and STA/NCS.

Wow this is getting old. You Basis trolls are pathetic. Know they're desperate for students. Sidwell, GDS, and STA/NCS have long wait lists. You rerk if desperation.

Funny how they never mention that BIM pays rent on 100k sq ft of space they haven't used since they moved in. If the school is growing and succeeding, why not build that out with all the facilities they currently lack?

Previous administrations promised the moon and the stars with that space. Now just crickets. Not enough students (and revenue) to fund it?
