I had to google who this was and I can’t imagine he’s had any actual relevancy in 40 yers so who effing cares. But sure, let’s pretend some old a$$ past-his-prime, and never that important in his prime white man matters.

Anytime Beyoncé does something, I’m like, “BUT WHAT DOES THAT GUY FROM DUKES OF HAZZARD THINK ABOUT IT?? NO, NOT THAT ONE, THE OTHER ONE”

Based on what?

Based on her being old and washed up. Astroturfed fake hype by her husband and his cronies is not genuine popularity. What was her last hit record? Drunk in Love over 10 years ago? Her most notable hit songs are from 15-25 years ago, ex Halo, Baby Boy, Irreplaceable, and the Destiny's Child songs. She's beyond washed up, no matter how much payola her husband throws around or Ed Sheeran features he pays for.

Holy crap, how can you ignore “Lemomade”? You must be drunk in tequila.

Oh boy, you are way out of touch.

How is this not cultural appropriation?

Black Americans were fundamental in the creation of country music. You didn’t know this?? Beyond creating and shaping this genre, there have always been Black country artists. Also, Beyoncé has continuously brought country elements/TX/Louisiana into her music.

Jay-z's public comments say otherwise.

Who has gone from pop/rock to country successfully?

Darius Rucker

He's just a grifter who segued to country when his soft rock career washed up. See also Kid Rock.

I don’t disagree but that still makes him someone who has gone from pop/rock to country successfully, which was the question asked. Kid Rock definitely tried that same play but I don’t think has been successful but I don’t like to think about Kid Rock so I don’t know.

Jay Z’s comments and thoughts aren’t directed at TS, they were directed at the people who vote and are on the board for the Grammys. It is a historically racist institution and he was calling attention that it is STILL givin awards to white people over black ones. If your world revolves around TS, that is your business, but that doesn’t mean Bey’s world revolves around her.

Darius Rucker is from the south and has been playing country music and blues on his guitar since childhood.

Mainstream country music radio was racist—or perceived as such—until recent decades. Darius did an interview on cbs Sunday morning in the last year about this. His quick success proved that country music fans weren’t as racist as everyone assumed AND he is talented enough to rocket to the top on his debut album.

He’s in the country music hall of fame and beloved by the industry.

The guy can sing anything. He transcends labels and genres.

She is huge as a phenomenon. Of course her tours sell out like crazy.

It terms of just music that's good to listen to (as opposed to the visuals and storytelling) I still like the Halo era best.

Because the roots of country music (and rock n roll) originated in Africa and the diaspora. She's actually taking it back, good for her

that makes zero sense - even if Bey won the award, it make so sense that Jay Z or B would think this has any bit of affect on TS

Effect. Makes perfect sense. It’s directed right at swift who started out as a country artist then moved into mainstream pop and robbed Beyoncé of her glory.

NP. It doesn’t make sense. Also, Taylor and Beyoncé have been supporting each other at their respective movie openings.

TS has already won country album of the year. Bey making a country album is zero to TS — literally does not matter in any way.

Fearless beat out I am Sasha Fierce for Album of the Year the same year it also won Country Album of the Year, and songs from the album were also up for best Pop songs against Bey. Jay z’s comment about not being in the right category was directed at swift and his comments about race at the Grammys were a veiled way of saying, this country white lady keeps besting my wife. Now this is their way of saying you can win at pop? Well we can win at country. It may mean nothing to swift but it’s a blatant ploy to try to her Bey a country album award if she can’t win album of the year. Maybe even get her some country music awards too.

They can try but doubtful the music will be any good since it hasn't been good in years.
