Who has gone from pop/rock to country successfully?
Darius Rucker
He's just a grifter who segued to country when his soft rock career washed up. See also Kid Rock.
I don’t disagree but that still makes him someone who has gone from pop/rock to country successfully, which was the question asked. Kid Rock definitely tried that same play but I don’t think has been successful but I don’t like to think about Kid Rock so I don’t know.
Darius Rucker is from the south and has been playing country music and blues on his guitar since childhood. Mainstream country music radio was racist—or perceived as such—until recent decades. Darius did an interview on cbs Sunday morning in the last year about this. His quick success proved that country music fans weren’t as racist as everyone assumed AND he is talented enough to rocket to the top on his debut album. He’s in the country music hall of fame and beloved by the industry. The guy can sing anything. He transcends labels and genres.
