Secondary school BATHROOMS

The closing of bathrooms and keeping just a few open in a school of 2500+ was probably the "what they're doing about it." No idea.

The limits on bathroom use is discriminatory for those who get their period. At this age, periods can be unpredictable - they need to be able to go to the bathroom when necessary. Should students just ask to go to the nurse constantly instead?

No. While health rooms accommodate if student needs to use its bathroom, there are other students who use the health room for other health needs so occupying the health room bathroom(s) is not a long term solution. With all these pediatricians and lawyers in this county, who can advocate for our students? Please do not say this Board of Education!

What is the situation with locked bathrooms at some (all?) mcps high schools? Some of these schools have over 2000 humans who need access to bathrooms. Where do students go when lines to the bathrooms are long to last the entire lunch period? Not all high schools have open lunch for students to go use a bathroom at a nearby establishment. Can you share your kids experiences at their high school?

Ours don't have doors.
Kids (at least in boys bathrooms) are vaping and smoking weed and fighting (and filming for snap or instagram). This is also where robberies happen. Very little gets reported. Security tries their best. But stuff keeps happening.

Maybe this is a W school thing or something but we don't have these issues at our DCC school.

RM has this problem and is not a W school.

I wish someone would sue MCPS about it. It’s utterly ridiculous to not give access to bathroom. They couldn’t do that in a prison.

Wheaton has this problem.

PTAs are ignored. Principals deflect and ignore when this topic is raised.

Same issue in FCPS. Kids these days are out of control and our schools don’t have the resources to deal with them.

It’s not strictly a matter of resources. It’s also a matter of a lack of willpower and conviction to push back against the current political climate, which is unreasonably deferential to students in a way that enables the misbehavior.

What exactly would PTA bring up? Kids are doing stupid stuff in bathrooms. Ya’ll screamed and hollered about that and overdoses last year. Not some bathrooms are closed and doors are off the bathrooms and security patrols those areas more or stays closer to them. Now you’re complaining that bathrooms are closed. What exactly do you want to happen? There are only so many resources. Kids are dealing.

Between going to the bathroom before school, lunch and essentially have a quater’s worth of passes I feel like most HS kids should be able to manage.

Students are not allowed to use the bathroom during the first or last 10 minutes of class at my kid's school. So their options are:
-miss instruction time during class (and get yelled at while they are using the bathroom by security guards).
- wait until lunch, then wait 20 minutes in line at one of two open bathrooms.
- try to find and use one of the open bathrooms during passing periods and risk being late for class.

This is causing a lot of anxiety and stress.

You clearly don't have a kid at a school with several locked bathrooms.

Resources, like the $3M MCPS did not bother to spend from the state grant.

Whoa, someone got off on the wrong side today.
Can the school call caretakers of the students under 18 yrs of age who are repeatedly in the bathrooms for non-bathroom purposes? Have parents come to the bathroom and take a look. Yes, even if that means you leave your work to do so. Drag your kid out of the bathroom! Any other ideas?
