Give me birthday party ideas in the home for a 2 year old

Anonymous
Please help me brainstorm entertainment ideas for my DS birthday party that I plan to have at my house. Activities? entertainers? please help!

Honestly, kids just like to play with other kids' toys. I would make a nice brunch from 10-12 and have kid friendly food like bagels and fruit salad.

You don't need entertainment for two year olds. Kids that age just need some toys and license to trash your playroom a little. Some things to can do:

Moonbounce
Chalk for outside play
Bubbles
A sprinkler to run through for summer parties
Riding toys
Balls
Get one of those cardboard houses and a bunch of crayons and washable markers
Punch balloons

+1000

Banish the term "entertainers" from your vocabulary.

Activities and entertainers can wait till age 3 or 4.

Keep the party pretty short.

Playing with balloons or toys.

We had Squeals on Wheels. It was a big hit.

This is what we did and people talked about how fun it was for 2 years! I also had a bubble machine for the yard and bought like 25 balloons. Toddlers love balloons. I gave them out as favors after the party, as well as bubbles and hot wheels.

For food, I did a cheese strata, cinnamon French toast casserole, kolaches, fruit salad, mini bagels and cream cheese and offered bloody Mary's and mimosas as well as coffee and tea. It was from 10-1, people left in time for naps and it was a blast. We did donuts instead of a cake.

Agreed on balloons. Toddlers love balloons.

OP here - thanks for the suggestions so far. All good stuff - keep em coming! The kids range from 1 year to 6 years which is why I was thinking of having someone come in like a music person to entertain the kids for 45 minutes or so

For the older kids, could you lay out a big roll of drawing paper and some crayons and markers and tell the kids to go to town on it? How often do little kids get to color HUGE pieces of paper? You could use painters tape to tape it up on your walls if you're brave enough. The sheets of paper that movers use to wrap dishes are great as are ends of newsprint rolls.

Or decorate your own cookies or cupcakes? Both big and little kids would get into that.

Scavenger hunt? You could have different clues for the different ages.

Pick a theme and go for it! Under the Sea... you could decorate the windows with window markers to make it look like a fish tank, different shades of blue balloons around at different heights, green crepe paper for seaweed, bubble machine outside of the front door (a cute way to enter), etc. First thing to do is to pick a theme.
