I'm able to play Youtube videos on my Mac. The home page did change, however.

Isn't YouTube Flash based?

Try updating your Adobe software.

I was having trouble off and on with Safari playing Youtube videos. I switched to Chrome and haven't had issues since doing so.

I'm also using Chrome. So, maybe that's the answer.
