What's wrong with Dooney and Bourke?

Anonymous
I found this really nice looking bag and it's from this brand. Never owned anything from them before, but a little research leads me to believe they are not consider a fashionable brand. Why do people seem to hate them?

I had Dooney & Bourke bags in the 7th grade. They were the height of fashion for the junior high set back in the late 80s.

Don't they do the bags with Mickey Mouse on them?

I'm 45 and when I think of Dooney & Bourke bags, I think of my mom.

Do you really care that much about how other people perceive the brand of bag that you buy? If you find it attractive and feel that it's good quality, buy it. If you don't, then don't. My father bought me a dooney and bourke bag when I was in middle school and I actually occasionally still use it, almost 15 years later.

I hate them because of the DB's everywhere on them. If they're plain, with no sign of DB, I'm sure they're fine.

40 here, and same. The old ones wore like iron, but then they went in the same direction as Coach with all of the branded, logo-ed shit, and that was probably their sad attempt at reaching a younger demographic.

They sell them on QVC. Hence, grandma wear.

I have a few of DB bags. I like them. I really don't care what other people think of them. If you like them OP get one.

Yes, my MIL was a fan. Stodgy.

So, what is your alternative at this price point?

I'm 51. Find them to be frumpy, like Vera Bradley. Although teens love VB lunch boxes, and carry-alls. Go figure.

Frumpy and cluncky. Why spend the money on something with negative status?

I don't know, I don't like most of their styles, but a few of them look nice. If you like a particular bag, just get it and don't worry about the brand.

I had a few Dooney's back in the mid 90's when i was in college. Mine were from the "All weather leather" collection--I don't know if there was any other type back then?

I loved them, and they held up very well...but I stopped liking them so much when they got all the more "trendy" looking lines (in the early 2000s?)

A couple years ago, I was in Lord and Taylor, and saw some bags by "Radley" that seemed very nice...Anyone know much about this brand?
