Around what ages are teens getting sexually active nowadays?

Take those self reported polls with a grain of salt. Kids don't want to report what they've done/haven't done even when anonymous.

Most 12-15 yr olds are not having sex. Especially if your younger teen is busy with extracurriculars and a rigorous academic schedule, and they aren’t in a relationship, chances are they are not having sex with anyone.

I would love to see a study comparing teens with more extracurriculars and “rigor” with those with less, and age of first sexual activity. My bet is the difference won’t be statistically significant.

NP. I don't know. The ones I know of in the middle school already into all the things have a whole lot of time on their hands in pretty lightly supervised environments.

Not saying other kids don't find a way if they are so inclined.

Ask any middle schooler what after-school clubs and the late bus are for.

Exactly. Boys saying they used condoms more than the girls? Right there that shows you a bunch of lies are happening here. I would like an anonymous poll asking if you lie on the sex anonymous polls

This seems about right to me.

Most of my DD's friends (she is a senior) have not had sex and some have. The ones who have had sex have a long-term boyfriend in later high school years (junior/senior) OR date a lot.

See this right here is why none of us will actually know the truth. Many teens, guys and girls have sex outside of relationships and most will not know about it because of the shame. And all of those “anonymous” poles that we think are so honest, the teens still won’t tell the truth in fear it’s not really anonymous. I mean if you had strict parents and had a pole in school, no way are you like I’m 15 and have had 3 partners. Get real.

Only the ones in relationships will admit to it. The other ones are “virgins” like Dione from Clueless.

And don’t get me started on the sexting and photos/videos. That actually PEAKS in middle school.

+1

My 22yr old nerd dd has now confided in stuff I would never in a million years thought was happening in high school AND middle school.

I think kids with time on their hands get into more trouble - sex, vaping, depression, social drama etc. I see this with kids in our MS.
Keep your kids busy and engaged!

You can keep them busy if you want, just don't overschedule them, that's a big problem within itself. At any rate, if kids want to have sex, experiment with drugs/alcohol they're going to find a way.

Keep your kids close. Busy doesn’t guarantee anything.

we can debate this all day long, but by default the less time kids have on their hands the less time they have to engage in risky behavior. Its simple math.

Ask Asian young adults in their early 20’s what their thoughts are on keeping them busy to keep them “perfect”

Ask them about their scroll of mental health issues

With that logic, the more extracurriculars, the more time outside the house so more opportunities to engage in sexual behavior at sports facilities, bathrooms, buses, etc. Ridiculous, no?

Those are the boys who are able to get the pretty girls, and the ones that have the opportunity to engage in sexual activity. I don't think they have had intercourse before junior year, but they do all sorts of other things, including sharing photos/videos online, that are worth parents knowing about. Extracurriculars and rigorous academics in no way whatsoever keep kids from hitting puberty and experiencing sexual urges. (I went to HSYP and was doing all sorts of things short of PIV in high school.)

True today too.

It’s much more common to do oral today. Kids thinks it’s not sex; no big deal. Similar with anal; it’s not “real” sex plus no pregnancy risks, and, why not?

Agree it’s most common among the really popular / attractive / athletic kids, especially when it’s like a single parent household, and there’s time and a safe place to do it.
