Around what ages are teens getting sexually active nowadays?

I don’t agree with this. I think it’s more like 25% and maybe higher in other versions of sex. It’s definitely increasing and the crazy part as a middle school teacher is just how brazen they all talk about it now.

Teens talk about a lot of things they’re not actually doing, especially when it comes to sex.

Of course!! Most of them are so full of crap. I remember this well from my day even.

I trust a middle school teacher though. They know what’s up

Most 12-15 yr olds are not having sex. Especially if your younger teen is busy with extracurriculars and a rigorous academic schedule, and they aren’t in a relationship, chances are they are not having sex with anyone.

I would love to see a study comparing teens with more extracurriculars and “rigor” with those with less, and age of first sexual activity. My bet is the difference won’t be statistically significant.

DS was 17 - varsity sport, club sport, rec sport, 10 AP classes in HS, full time summer job...GF of 2y... evidently, they found time.

People. Stop responding to posts with information or opinions about older teens when you are in a thread talking about 12-15 year olds. Is this happening over and over because the posts are collapsed? People are saying keep 12-15 year olds busy. We can all agree 17 year olds with a girlfriend will find time to have sex.

This exactly. I am talking about MS. They need to be busy. The busier they are, the less issues you will see. They need to be engaged with their activities, friends, families or they'll run into trouble.

My 13 year old is very popular, pretty, and has a boyfriend. Hasn’t even had her first kiss yet. All her friends the same.
Not all teens are skanks.

She’s not as pretty as you think she is. She needs to step up her game. She’s a loser

There is a huge difference between middle school and even early high school. I have a 14 and 16 yo and I know probably more than I should have the love lives of them and their friends.

Few kids have sex in middle school and they are usually the ones you’d guess. My 8th grader says there are lots of rumors about people having sex and that most of it is meanspirited gossip.

However, freshman year this changes. Over half of my 16 yo olds friends (and herself) lost their virginity sometime between the start of freshman year and now which is sophomore year. Most of this happened in the context of a “relationship” but many of these relationships were pretty fleeting. They got a title of boyfriend from a guy after 3 dates and then they have sex, and break up a month later. As long as they were official, they don’t get much judgment from others. But it’s glorified casual sex really. Definitely some more serious dating too (my daughter dated for 6 months and lost it to him - both were freshman).

Anyway, my daughter is in a friend group with the popular kids for lack of a better term, and these kids definitely are pretty bold and sexually active.

My DC are 24, 21 & 16 and I can comfortably and confidently say that my two oldest became sexually active with their respective opposite sex first girlfriend/boyfriend. For DD this was 17 and her senior year in HS, for DS 19 and his college girlfriend (they are still together).
My youngest has never even been on a date.

We talk openly about most everything - by design and out of habit. DD on birth control age 14. Sent DS to college with condoms. I’m just tossing those birth control mentions as examples and not a list.

Lots of girls are sexually active in MS. Guess what they have in common? Free time, permissive parents, older siblings or parents caught up in their popularity contest.

I keep seeing free time on here as a reason for kids to have sex, drink ect. Is none concerned that these kids can't seem to entertain themselves without getting themselves into trouble?
