"Out of every Bachelorette there has ever been — and so far, there are 11 of them — only two of them have actually been previous winners: Jen Schefft and Emily Maynard, and they both appeared in seasons filmed long after their initial appearances on The Bachelor. Two others were the runners up, but the majority of past Bachelorettes have finished third, whether it was because at that point, they quit (like Andi Dorfman) or happened to be the one who got cut after Fantasy Suite dates when the Bachelor chose his final two (like Kaitlyn Bristowe). In fact, five out of the 11 Bachelorettes were in third place, so it seems totally likely that the pattern will continue."

5/11 is not a “majority.” They probably meant plurality. This country is doomed.

+1

Oh that's the poster who has a vested interest in the third-runner-up being chosen, lol.

Wut? Not everything is about Leslie. Leslie will or won't be chosen as the bachelorette, can you live with that?

Well, since I prefer Joan yeah...

Are you male or female?

Can you tell us what exactly you find attractive about Joan that makes her a superior candidate for Golden Bachelorette?

Do you see any downsides to that pick --- even ones you're willing to accept?

I'm just looking for her supporters to persuade me or at least help me understand the appeal b/c from what I've seen on GB and on the little instagram/tiktok videos that show up, she seems to be trying really hard to be current/trendy/interesting. But, what I see is someone who has a lovely, statuesque figure, really pretty hair, and who is a more introverted, guarded, quiet person. I wouldn't describe her as vivacious or charismatic or dynamic or hilarious based on what I've seen on the show and in other media. The non-expressive face has been mentioned. So, what puts her at the top of your list for being a lead?

Female. I like that she seems genuine and has a good head on her shoulders. She seemed thoughtful and well-spoken, and like a nice friend to Faith and Ellen during ATR when she held their hands and looked mad on their behalf. She was endearing during the talent show. Although I agree with others that the cosmetic procedures are too much right now, she has a great look overall if she'd cool it with them. But these observations are based on what I saw on the show not her social media, which I haven't been following. And I don't disagree about her relative guardedness compared to the others.

DP. I agree with this. I'd add that Joan has a certain dignity. But the producers might think her reserved personality (and I have one too) might make her a less exciting contestant.

Probably. My two favorites were Joan and Edith, yes, the two most dignified and reserved. So I guess that's just my taste, but I can see how producers might feel neither would make for exciting tv.

PP here. On the other hand, Gerry seemed to like her a lot, so maybe she has enough "it" factor for men of that age to be the bachelorette. It's not like Gerry was a super-dynamic funny guy/pickelball player/sex god. He offered warmth and sincerity (well until his ex talked to the press) but he wasn't exactly charismatic.

PP again. They can infuse the show with charismatic guys for her to pick.

I like this idea a lot, but I suspect it might be too much of a risk.

I like Joan too but think she would have gotten more Golden Wedding screen time if she were a contender. I barely saw her. Susan, Kathy, Leslie, Faith, and Sandra were the only women who got real screen time, right?

I agree Joan got very little screen time. On the other hand, we didn't know Gerry at all before the series started, so I don't know if that's a problem; also it doesn't sound like they've decided yet. But yeah, it seems like a problem, because even if they're all just in the running, it would make sense to push them equally.

ASKN on the rocks, apparently April is out and has been unfriended on social media by the others. Oh well, so much for the older women modeling good behavior!
Anonymous
I don't know if that's true. But if ot turns out to be the reason she didn't go with the others to St. Martin...it's no surprise. April is not the kind of woman who plays nice. She HAS to be the center of attention ...and that probably gets old after awhile. You can tell that Nancy is a good person. Susan is a good person. Joan is a good person. Ellen is a good person. April....well...she's not like the others.

I don’t remember seeing April engage in any not-nice behavior. She’s just a bit of a kook.

She's too kooky and attention-seeking to be the next bachelorette, IMO.

So, did they get married yet?

We don't know these women at all.

I'm with you. Joan and Edith were my favorites too. Not only were they the most dignified, I also thought they were the prettiest. The big problem I have with Leslie is the lack of dignity. That attention-seeking pole dancing personality is too much; it might make for very good reality tv though, lol. Well, I mean, it already did...

DP. Joan and Edith were my favorites too. But I think it is because I thought they were the prettiest.

He was in love with Leslie until he, after many weeks, decided to finally ask Theresa what she did for a living. When he found out, he suddenly declared his love for her. Also, he and his wife buy an expensive lake house and she’s ends up dead a month later? How much was she insured for? I know it sounds crazy, but he seems just that creepy to me!

You're crazy.

He wasn't in love with Leslie. She was fun in bits and pieces. Small doses. Spending an overnight with her had to have been exhausting. She has the emotional maturity of a 16 year old girl. No man in his right mind would be with someone like that; her past choices caught up with her

NP. He seemed 100% not into Theresa until she discussed her career over dinner. Suddenly he was interested again. I'm not even going to shade him for that. Financially compatibility and lifestyle objectives are important issues for a couple to discuss. We know from his ex's account that he is not interested in supporting a partner, and Leslie might not have had much to bring to the table financially. His poor wife was the steady worker and therefore breadwinner by default. That's what he's used to. I don't think that's the entire story--my guess is that Theresa pleasantly surprised him physically as well (enthusiasm etc.) and that they just clicked overall in a way that made more sense to him in the end. But I've also never gotten the vibe that he's head over heels in love with Theresa. I think he likes her and she made the most sense. She found him handsome and nice and was thrilled to be chosen. I hope they can be good and devoted companions to each other.

100

% agree about the part he was never into Teresa until she told him what she did. The look in his eyes was like $$$$$$$

Think his wife got ill. Don’t think it has to do with insurance

I dislike that the show hyped up his career/wealth to match his appearance and make him more attractive. It's pretty clear from the old cheesy tattoo, motorcycles, maintenance man job that he's more of a working class guy, which is all fine and good but not if it's deceptively hidden. I also noticed the spark in his eye when he found out about Theresa's job and wealth. It was SO obvious that it swayed him. I really hope her family had her sign a very good prenup.

+1. He seemed in love with Faith until she decided she couldn’t leave her dead horse (for Gerry, she later clarified she was willing to move but it’s not clear under what circumstances. It looked like Faith was gently dumping him.

Anyway, he cried when Faith said no. I know he cried a lot, but usually it was because he didn’t want to hurt anybody, and this is the only relationship I can think of where he cried because it was over by someone else’s choice.

Then he has to choose between Theresa and Leslie. I agree he didn’t seem like a Leslie kind of guy, apart from some fun in the sack.
