For those that live in the City, do you have any interest in the City Council race? The streets near my house are overly littered with signs and I am not sure how to distinguish any candidate from the other.
Also, are there any Republicans, Independents, Libertarians, anything other than Democrats??? (Not a slam against Democrats think its good to have balance.) |
I see all those signs, too, but I don't know anything about the race. Here's an article from the local paper.

The signs up are for the Democratic primary. |
Another topic about race? Realllyyy!!! |
21:02 - thanks for the link - I am glad to see there are some Republican candidates - for variety and balance.
22:11 - this isn't a post about race - it's about a local election. |
It's actually a pretty important and interesting race.
There are 14 Democrats vying for 6 nominee slots. On the Republican side, I think there are 3 candidates now, assuming Alicia Hughes gets her shit together and files her paperwork. The primary is June 12. The top Dem candidates are: Wilson, Lovain, Pepper, Chapman, Smedburg, and Feld. The rest of the field is pretty weak. Boyd Walker always invokes his mama every time he talks (his mama is an Alexandria icon). Peabody's tenure with the school board has been really undistinguished. Holihan seems to think he's running for state office and has had to rely on a lot of money from outside the city and state since he's only lived in Alexandria a couple of years (although he is the best-funded). The rest are just sort of curiousities. |
