My 5mo old rolled off the bed while I was switching the laundry. Waiting for call back from pediatrician. Baby seems fine. I can't believe I let this happen.

Welcome to the guilt of motherhood.

This happened to me too when my baby was little. He fell off the couch. He's fine. Don't beat yourself up about it. These things happen. Wait until your baby starts walking. They fall down all the time then.

It's fine. Happens to all of us.

I just did this this weekend to my preemie 4 month old. There was a sick thud and then frantic craziness. See my worst mother on earth post. We went to fair fax but they just observed us. If the baby is acting normally, not vomiting or unconscious, they prob won't scan.

They might do a CT scan- they did with us as a precaution despite our infant acting normally. He had a fractured skull. They put him in PICU and monitored. No surgery - the way their skulls grow it resolved. Interestingly the new guidelines with CT scans he might not have had one...but then the outcome might have been the same anyways and we would have never known.

Also, my experience was on the freak side of things so odds are your child will be ok. Good luck.

They won't give a scan now unless there are "high risk" symptoms -- unconciousness at time of fall, vomiting, vision issues, extreme drowsiness. They claimed to be able to tell externally the likelihood of fracture (hmmmm). I asked for a scan for peace of mind, and they said no. but, apparently the height, etc. of the fall factors in.

Condolences - I dropped my baby when I tripped up the stairs a couple of months ago. Felt horrible but he was/is fine and I've recovered too.

Ugh. I almost wondered if this was an old post i wrote back when my baby was 5mth old. Same thing happened to us. Pediatrician was not worried but told us to look out for the symptoms--excessive sleeping, vomiting etc.

I've done it too. Still shiver when i think of it and it's over 2 years ago! Total accident and happens to the best of us. I still feel like a negligent mother despite what logic would tell me. Mommy guilt galore!

My child fell off the bed onto her head. Twice. She is fine though.

Two kids. Both fell of the bed a couple times when small. Dad and I felt so bad when it happened, but luckily kids are pretty durable and were not seriously injured.

A friend of mine says that you're not having the full experience as a parent until a baby falls off the bed.

Yours is the first thread of the week re this issue. There's always 2 or 3 per week, just watch.

Signed, mom who dropped her baby#1 twice and just waiting to see when will be the first time I'll drop #2 LOL

My baby leaned forward on the couch last week and rolled onto the floor. I felt the same exact way. We both cried, I freaked out for a few days, and he is fine. The best thing anyone could have said to me was that it happens to (almost) all parents at some time or another!

Yep, I still harbor guilt about this kind of stuff too, but in 6 years of parenting my three kids, I've had two that fell of the bed, one that fell down the stairs, one that fell off a low bunk bed, and a few times of them falling down the front concrete steps, and probably many more. It's awful and it makes me sick every time to even think about it, but they are all completely fine. What made me feel better is googling "my baby fell of the bed" and seeing the thousands and thousands of hits. This happens to everyone and it is almost always fine.
