My DC just received the Level IV eligibility letter.
DC currently attends a language immersion school outside our base school area. Our letter stated that the child can attend AAP at his base school or the center school. However, it does not give us the option of enrolling in the Local LIV at his current language immersion school. Does anyone know if the child would be eligible to stay at the current language immersion school and take the Local LIV offered there? |

Is the local level IV class at the immersion school an immersion class?
Immersion kids accepted to AAP typically have to leave the immersion program to attend AAP. |
PP is correct - this decision involves a choice between the two special programs. |

Yes. The child is in an immersion school that will be offering LLIV in immersion for the first time next year in 3rd grade.
So... only LLIV for immersion students if it's their base school?? The other outside immersion students can't take advantage of both (if they qualify) as well? That doesn't seem correct. |
| I'd just call on Monday -- I'd bet this was an oversight. |
| DC will be able to participate. I got clarification about the LLIV program at the Language Immersion school yesterday. It's actually an Infusion Model - classroom of Level IV students and other very capable/motivated students. It will be full time Level IV (not a pull out) with Immersion. We'll still attend the center's orientation and the base school's LLIV orientation, but Level IV w/ Immersion sounds great. |
| Let us know how well that program works. We have had to choose between language and AAP and this sounds like a great option. |
| Can you please share with me the name of the school with Level IV which also has immersion? Is it Spanish immersion? We are looking at moving in the area from another state where our DC is currently enrolled in Spanish immersion (2nd grade) with gifted and talented services. We don't want to have to choose and what you are describing would be an ideal situation for our DC. If you don't want to post here, please email me: EstherOrtizLaw@yahoo.com |
