Some of us knew and tried to tell people. I’ve been scoffed at for years, and people are still “both sides!”-ing as if the GOP is a legitimate party. There will be more mayhem by the Republicans, essentially toward the willful destruction of the apparatus that governs the country. They’re still trying to drown the government in a bathtub. |
WSJ reporting that Marjorie Taylor Greene said she would call a vote to oust Speaker Mike Johnson next week.
Democrats said yesterday that enough of them will vote for him so he doesn’t get removed. https://apnews.com/article/speaker-mike-johnson-marjorie-taylor-greene-motion-to-vacate-552169f3e831ab8fb3baacfdf76c2d82 |
Hope they are getting some concessions out of him in return for helping him fight of the crazies |
Why did Democrats hang McCarthy out to dry but plan to support Johnson? |
It took a while (too long) but Johnson finally got the aid package passed. |
McCarthy lied to them all the time. Johnson is much more evangelical conservative and takes too long but eventually does the right thing. They have to vote to fund the government again in September. |
Also there’s a fair chance that if they oust Johnson they won’t be able to agree on anyone else and there won’t be a speaker at all for months. |
Because despite the fact that Johnson is more conservative in general than McCarthy, McCarthy was childish about refusing to "work with the Democrats" and used it for political points. Johnson may be more extreme, but he is more of an old-school legislator in that he will go in and actually negotiate in good faith and try to keep his end of the bargain. But McCarthy would make concessions and then deny or try to weasel out of his side of agreements while trying to hold Democrats to theirs. So, while politically more conservative, Johnson has more integrity and is actually a better person for the Democrats to negotiate with. |
Yep, Johnson got all the spending bills done and kept the government open. He stood up to the extremist bullying, which is why MTG is throwing a temper tantrum. Surprisingly, it all felt relatively stable throughout. Everything can’t be hyper partisan. She knows he won’t be removed but just wants to put Republicans and Democrats on the record. It’s the height of politics and immaturity. She’s a terrible person and both parties see it. |
What is she gaining for her district? Seems like they could make a better choice. |
MTG's district is deep red. They probably eat this stuff up with a spoon. |
“Nothing ever gets done in Washington!” “I like that she will never compromise and will Fight like hell!” |
Would Jeffries put a full stop to all funding to Israel? |
The concession is that Johnson will agree to get the government funded in the fall before the Dems retake the House and he hands the keys to Jeffries. |
