I’ve seen that on other threads about royals here too. One woman would report anything remotely negative no matter how mild. Like I once said that something about them looking unhappy or wondered if one of them was unhappy with the other. NBD comments and she’d report them on rapid fire. So. Weird. |
What W&K got wasn’t similar to Frogmore House? |
What DC rowhouse has ten bedrooms? |
I'm asking. I vaguely remember W&Ks first house together being described as quaint and needing some repairs. |
It’s a very long lease owned by the monarch. That’s true too of the property where Andrew lives. And “long” in this case can mean multiple decades, with their kids inheriting the lease. Payments are definitely not market value. At least with Queen Elizabeth, it was a way to “gift” her kids and grandkids with palatial living spaces, with lifetime-length, relatively low cost leases. |
I think their first place was the small Nottingham Cottage at Kensington Palace, where Harry later lived. They lived there while their mansion sized apartment at Kensington Palace was being renovated, and the enormous Anmer Hall — their country property, was being renovated. They also have Adelaide Cottage near Windsor Castle, and a property at Balmoral. Those are just the bigger ones that I’m aware of. I’ll post a link if I can find something quickly. https://www.cosmopolitan.com/entertainment/celebs/a41196424/kate-middleton-prince-william-houses-homes-castles/ |
Didn’t W+K get all the real estate goodies immediately? |
Frogmore cottage has about 5 bedrooms — after being renovated from 5 small 2 bedroom homes. Reportedly. I’d be interested in knowing if the renovations returned the property back to its original floor plan. DP There may be a few. Logan Circle comes to mind. The 3 story row house my Mom lived in as a child had 6, I think, so a renovated version, especially with a ground floor instead of a cellar, might get close. I just know old NW though. I’m guessing that some row houses in areas where land was less expensive or rooms were smaller might have had 4 bedrooms on each floor rather than 3. Actually, maybe my grandparents had more than 6 rooms. My mom had 2 brothers and her grandmother lived with them, and I know that after an emergency (I think a fire at a fraternity), the family took in a small number of students for a few years. |
They were given their homes as wedding gifts. Harry was in at that point. |
Yes, but the two large properties— at Kensington Palace and Anmer Hall were both renovated, so they didn’t move in immediately. Harry and Meghan initially rented a place in the Cotswolds, after they married, but left because of press/photographers intrusions. |
His father was not king at the time. This is really easy to understand. |
Holy sh*t. H & M have nothing of the kind! |
It pays to be loyal to the crown. |
No it was somewhere else out in the country like Wales or Scotland or something.. |
Nah. His father was rich as the prince of wales. Lots of rich people give their kids homes as wedding gifts. The point above was that Elizabeth bought a new property to give to Anne as a wedding gift. Charles had the money, it wasn’t like his hands were tied until he became king. |
