My son started talking this weekend.

He has not said many understandable things in his life! He is 3.5 and was diagnosed with autism earlier this year. He is saying three and four word sentences!! We are overjoyed! What a wonderful gift. I just want you parents going through this type of problem with their kids know that there is hope!! He has occupational therapy twice a week, speech twice a week, plus he goes to early intervention. I have never had a conversation with my son, and just a few minutes ago he said "Is that Christmas?" while watching an advertisement on tv. I said "yes it is." and then he said "That's funny". I just can't believe it. I never thought I would see this day.

I remember when my son came home from special ed preschool one day (probably same age as your son) and began using the phrase "I want". It was one of the greatest days of our lives as well.

Even when progress is slow, take what you can get!! It will get better and better!!
