You’re a teen? With a husband? Or just making irrelevant comments?

Oh she is just trying so desperately to be relevant.

See that's where you make another mistake. I like my nails. My DH likes my nails. I've had them for the better part of 30 years. They were ALWAYS relevant to me. It matters not one iota what you think of them. Zero.

The difference between you and me is that I couldn't care less what you wear. It's your body and you can do with it what you like. It speaks volumes about your character that something as innocuous as my nails is bothering you SOOOO much.

No sane male person likes acrylic nails - they just tolerate them.

Ok, I guess you know my DH better than I do. It kind of tracks with everything else you said

You're so smart.

DP and you are coming off the opposite of how you intend. Unless you intend to sound awfully insecure.

I don't think you like the implication of this thread that so many people out there in real life see your nails and inwardly cringe with disgust. These people don't have bad character, as you want to pretend to make yourself feel better. They are simply care more about hygiene than you do.

Oh please. Again, I don't care what you think about my nails. I'm 46, not some 16 year old seeking approval from every person I meet.

If it's about hygiene for you that's totally fine. Tell yourself whatever you want. But again, that has NOTHING to do with me. Just don't wear them and it's all fine.

The only thing stupider than a 16 year old wearing acrylic nails is a 46 year old wearing acrylic nails.

You look like an idiot.

DP, are you in HS still because at this point you are just reaching for petty insults to sling to keep this going. When you use the words “stupider” and “idiot” in an argument you’ve already lost.

I am the PP who called you insecure, but I did not write the post above. You are responding to more than one person.

You can't win this argument if you are talking about hygiene. Facts are against you on that one. The appearance part is a different thing and simply a matter of preference. If they were not so dirty, many of us wouldn't care about nails one bit. It would be no different than the style of your shirt etc.

Show me the evidence that my nails are inherently more dirty.

Are you unfamiliar with Google? Try searching "artificial nails and pathogens" or "acrylic nails or germs" or however you want to approach it. There are multiple studies linking artificial nails to higher amounts of pathogens. Just one example, since you seem unable to do a basic search yourself. Your nails are dirty. Go ahead and wear them, but stop trying to argue with those of us who are pointing out that they are gross.

https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/10968715/
"Conclusions: Artificial fingernails were more likely to harbor pathogens, especially gram-negative bacilli and yeasts, than native nails. The longer artificial nails were worn, the more likely that a pathogen was isolated. Current recommendations restricting artificial fingernails in certain healthcare settings appear justified."

As I’ve said numerous times before, I’m not in healthcare so this is not a concern for me. I also don’t eat with my hands and wash my hands like 30 times a day. I’ll be just fine. Probably better than you.

Preparing food for yourself and family involves touching it with your hands and nails. No matter how many times you wash your hands, it does not remove the pathogens living under long fake nails. Nursing with fake nails were responsible for tons of NICU baby deaths, traced to their nails. I’m positive those nurses were washing their hands way more than you do.

Never been an issue for me. I don't go around trying to live in a sterile environment. If I were a NICU nurse I would not wear them, nor did I when I had a newborn myself.

And they aren’t even worried about someone else’s business, they are obsessed with it. Like literally obsessed with other people’s nails. It’s unhinged. They need a hobby.

I've just argued with you about the hygiene part, that's it. I think it is unkind to call them trashy (or to call anything trashy, for that matter).

The thing is, by being similarly insulting, you will bring no one over to your way of thinking. If you love your nails, wear them, but you can't make other people like them. And if you are comfortable with the germy part, that's your choice, but understand many of us have a hard time with the germy part and don't want them on our teens. Why would you feel the need to argue with us about that?

As I’ve said numerous times before, I’m not in healthcare so this is not a concern for me. I also don’t eat with my hands and wash my hands like 30 times a day. I’ll be just fine. Probably better than you.

Unlikely. Based on your last sentence and other posts, you are hostile and unkind.

It's not about my nails. It's about pointing out how ridiculous some of you look when you worry about someone else's business.

And they aren’t even worried about someone else’s business, they are obsessed with it. Like literally obsessed with other people’s nails. It’s unhinged. They need a hobby.

Did you read the subject of this thread before you got on here and made this ridiculous comment. Grown women invaded this thread to defend their own nail wearing. This thread is about paying for your teens to get them. They brought the scrutiny on themselves.

OK, cool. But just to set the record straight i am not the one calling people idiots, trashy, tacky, gross and all of the other stuff that's been directed at me. About something that has no impact on their life.

Please point out where I have been "similarly insulting." I haven't. And I'm not trying to make anyone "like my nails." I just want to be left alone to enjoy them without being called trashy and stupid. Did I argue about germy parts? Dont see that either. Pretty sure I said it didn't bother me personally but if I were a NICU nurse I wouldn't wear them.

The first page of the thread shows that it devolved almost immediately into a discussion of adults with nails and how it’s gross, etc. The invasion was of grown women feeling to need to espouse their opinions on other grown women who have acrylics.

If I were a NICU nurse I would not wear them, nor did I when I had a newborn myself.

why not? i thought there were not hygiene issues.
