-know your high school's curriculum and all the different "tracks" -do not push your kid to take course rigor that the teachers have advised against -know your child: base your list on where they have a realistic chance of success if they get in: a kid who is around average at a top suburban public or a good private is around 80-85th %ile, or 1100 on a PSAT-10 , or around 1200 on a minimally-prepped SAT is going to struggle UVA or W&Mary, even if they get in. |
