I find their primary endorsements very helpful, actually. For who NOT to vote for. They've been reliable in this way for at least 20 years.

Is Alsobrooks up to the task of defeating Larry Hogan? Upthread someone mentioned that there are numerous clips of her praising Hogan. If true, that would be very tough to overcome. If I were Hogan, I would run about a million commercials with those.

Alsobrooks is expert at winning endorsements. That’s how you win primary elections in heavily democratic areas. She has never had to campaign directly to voters for votes in a competitive election, much less a statewide election. She hasn’t ever even had to appeal to voters who are not Black and the knock on her in PG County has been that she has even excluded Hispanics from appointments, even though they represent over 20% of the population. So she’s already disadvantaged herself statewide before a single ballot is cast. She’s not going to make it.

Nominating a County Executive with zero name recognition to go up against a two-term governor seems very risky. That feels like the kind of thing a party does when it is admitting defeat and conceding the race. But this is obviously a very winnable race for Democrats.

There’s one upthread showing Trone and Hogan basically tied and Alsobrooks doing a little worse. About 15% undecided. But it’s only April. People will be locked in by Election Day and will fully understand that lifetime Supreme Court seats are on the line.

You’re not from around here. The Post doesn’t bother covering Maryland news, except for a few odd stories about Montgomery County when it’s embarrassing enough and even fewer about PG County. Just enough to keep the few subscribers happy. They don’t cover the Oriole’s or Ravens at all. So no, the Washington Post is not relevant for Maryland and their endorsement in this state wide race is not going to move the needle.

Alsobrooks is toast.

Keep in mind that Hogan over performed the polling in both of his gubernatorial victories. Strong indicator that there are a lot of “shy” Hogan voters who don’t want to publicly admit that they’re voting Republican.

Yup.

I think there's also a lot of country boys that call him a RINO but will check the box next to his name when they come out for Donnie

Two things:

1. Hogan was running for governor, not senator. Crossing party lines is low risk in gubernatorial elections. That’s why it’s not unusual to see democratic governors in deeply red states.

2. Hogan never ran for office during a presidential election year, when people are very focused on lifetime Supreme Court appointments. And the Senate is inextricably linked with the Supreme Court.
