+1. No way the state party is going to allow both US senators to be old white men. Ain’t happening.

Also, two Senators from Montgomery County is an issue.

Don't worry, he has no chance. Not really sure what the plan is even, with this run.

I don't know much about Trone, but as long as he never advocated for defunding the police (like Jawando), I will consider him.

He just likes to run for things.

Before labeling him, why not try to see what he has tried to do in Congress? He has been a huge advocate for mental health and drug addiction issues, having experienced the death of his nephew form a drug overdose.

My interactions when needing help from his office were great. On top of the request, responsive and solving the issue on a timely basis. This is in contrast with my needing help from Congressmen Raskin's office which did not go as well nor were there as responsive. We got switched from Trone to Raskin due to redistricting.

I would much rather have someone who is charge and knows how to get things done. Who cares if they have money or not?

What are his actual legislative accomplishments?

He wants to be Obama (he used to be Obama’s body man and is fixated on emulating him.)

Jawandon't!

Trone is actually a smart person. I could vote for him.

Alsobrooks is good as a county executive but doesn't have the intellectual heft I'd like to see in a Senator. Of course that isn't necessarily a criterion for election, just look at some of the characters who already do hold Senate seats (looking at you, Ron Johnson, Josh Hawley)

Of course I expect the DCUM cohort to support Trone. He will have the fiscally-privileged wine mom vote.

Hating on Trone because he is a successful businessman and is rich, is just dumb.

It's fine if you prefer Alsobrooks- but the whole "hes rich, he's white, he's a man" is just absurd.

Only if you support the terrible idea that white cis males are better qualified to make legislative decisions for everyone.

The point is not that he's not qualified, but that we need a diversity of opinion in our national Legislature to have more equal representation and viewpoint when making national decisions that affect everyone. Electing "yet another rich white man" is copping out on trying to ensure that we have equal representation and opinions in the US Congress. Since incumbents tend to have an advantage when going for reelection, this is our one chance to change the representation for Maryland in the US Congress. Chris Van Hollen is only 64, and is likely to stay for another 15ish years, so we may not have another chance to change our representation for quite a while.

So, I think it is very important to get someone other than YARWM, so I don't think it is at all absurb to discount him because he represents just another part of the problem. I think it is actually very important to vote to change that pattern now.
