Someone rolled their eyes at me today...

Such a gorgeous day! I took DD to Gymboree while DH is at school and stopped at the grocery store on my way back.

DD was getting impatient sitting on the stroller so I started singing to her the song that was playing on the background - Boys Don't Cry (The Cure). She was laughing, the cashier said some compliment and we were so happy enjoying those few minutes while the lady scanned our items. I noticed the guy behind us banging his stuff on the counter and when I looked up he rolled his eyes at me.

What a stink!

I sing along out loud all the time! I love the songs they play mostly at Marshall's and Ross. At Così and Panera I keep it to myself though . Nobody ever reacted like that on my face. I was in shock!

I understand people having a bad day, I have plenty of those but try to ruin other people's day instead of trying to improve yours? What a stink!

Sorry OP, but I too get annoyed when people sing songs in the store. I mean, I want to shop and hear the actual song, not you sing. Does not matter if you have a great voice or not, it is annoying.

Or, maybe you can't sing well, they aren't feeling well and the noise bothers them (headache/migrane) or maybe you aren't paying attention to checking out and he's in a hurry and you are not concerned at all about other's needs.

You should have rolled your eyes back at him!

You're welcome to walk away from me. I don't yell... I usually hum or just sing in a very low voice. Today I was singing TO MY DAUGHTER. If he was in a hurry he could've used the self check out. I got there first so like everybody else in the world we just wait for our turn. Isn't it what we teach our kids?

What a bunch of bitter people. Ewww!

Lotta unhappy people out there (and here). Don't let them get you down.

I only would have been annoyed if it were slowing you down and keeping you from swiping your card and getting on with it, but otherwise I would have thought it was cute.

I hate when others are having a bad day and try to ruin everybody else's. I've gotten that occasionally as well, whether it be an eye roll or an actual comment.

Singing to your daughter to entertain her during the last stretch of a shopping trip doesn't seem like a big deal to me.

OP, you sing to your daughter and have fun! Don't worry about the sourpuss in line behind you. It's not like you were singing along at the Kennedy Center or something, for pete's sake! You were in a *store* and you were cheering up your kid. Much better than having her spiral down into a crying tantrum!

Next time, I'll join you in the singing!

What I horrible day! I'm having a get together after my dad's funeral today and realized that we didn't have all I needed in the house, so I went to the store. On my way there I got a flat tire, had to change it. By the time I got back in the car I had a horrible headache. You know, probably from the crying, the pressure to have all these people at my house in such a grieving moment and just having to go to the store in such short notice...
Anyway, I am informed the store doesn't have one of the items I need, so I have to go to another store... I hurry to the check out line and there is this lady, singing out loud to a little kid, distracting the cashier and holding up the line. Ugh! All I could do was roll my eyes and think "when is this day gonna be over?

Yes, I do realize that the chances this actually happened are incredibly small. But my point is, you'll never know. If the worst part of your day is someone rolling their eyes at you, consider yourself lucky.

OP here.

Why people insist on thinking of the worst?

As I said, for people in a rush the self check out was EMPTY!

Whenever I get a chance I use the cashier operated one because my mom works in a grocery store and I think those guys need their job.

Sorry but I'm not that kind of person who is always thinking of the worse and I must tell you, I think it helps me to keep my family and all around us HAPPIER.
