I think a lot of that data right now includes people who are finding they cannot afford homeowners insurance and therefore see no other option besides moving to a different state. Assuming they don't want to just rent in Florida but increases in insurance are passed on from owners to renters so there's that. I'm sure there are also a number of people who want to move somewhere else but data clearly shows that especially in the last few years Florida is a sought after destination. During the worst of covid Florida represented a place where you could enjoy numerous outdoors activities year round and the schools were not as shut down as other states. Many did and still do find this very appealing, especially those who can work from anywhere.

A lot of Boomers have second homes and Gen X/Millennials may not have the financial wherewithal to absorb that supply. Take a look at the demographics change by age in Florida since 2010.

I'm seeing people squeezed by costs. The 'wants' were fueled by stimulus and cheap leverage. Different dynamics at play now.

I think the over-65 population, as a whole, has grown since 2010...boomers aging.

All I know is, my county and surrounding have thousands of new homes going up, and selling, and they're building new schools to go with that.

Instead of buying a second home there which we planned on retiring to, we will just get a short term rental for 4 months.

Judging from the thousands of new housing units and businesses in my county-yes, people are still moving to Florida.

Florida and Texas are still the states with the most people moving there while California and New York are still the states most people are moving from.

Family of four here from MoCo moving to the Tampa area. I used to be a Democrat until last year when I found out that a federal government science agency, for whom I've worked for two decades, was explicitly barring white men from executive applicant pools. Needless to say I am no longer a Democrat (that BS is a bridge too far for me). Of course, none of this has anything to do with why we are moving to Florida. We're doing that for spouse's business reasons and primarily to to escape winter.

FL and TX should be careful of what they wish for.

The reason why people are moving out of CA and FL is because they got priced out. But, TX property tax is 2%+, one of the highest in the country, and FL home insurance has gone through the roof even as home values have also been going up.

Long timers in FL are moving out of the more expensive counties in FL because they can no longer afford to live there.

Then you have guys like this, who live in no income tax state MT, but the property tax has gone through the roof, such that this 68 yr old man has to go back to work just to afford to live in the house he bought in 1995.

Federal agencies explicitly barring white men from executive applicant pools?? How are Democrat racists getting away with that?
