Kristi Noem shot a puppy for being untrainable as a hunting dog

I can’t imagine how you could sleep after shooting your own dog.

Yes, and not knowing how this would play to your audience. This is clearly someone who is a sociopath. Most people who have to put a dog down talk about how upset they are. There was nothing here to suggest that. It's almost casual in terms of discussing killing a puppy.

The day we said goodbye to our 15-year-old dog was the saddest day of my life. What is wrong with her?

+1 She must not ever have seen the movie Old Yeller. It had such an effect on me as a child. For her to put a dog in a gravel pit and shoot it while it's looking at you and scrambling to get out?! She is totally missing the empathy piece.

those beautiful eyes of Cricket. how can one look in those eyes and make such a decision?

I get that this wasn’t a pet in the way suburban/urban people have pets. I also grew up in a farming/ranching area, and I get that farmers are not sentimental about a lot of stuff. But I also don’t think the ranchers I know would just kill a dog that was only barely a year old - seems really wasteful and neglectful, which are not really characteristics of farm/ranch people.

The label "psychopath" gets thrown around too loosely on the internet...but she truly is. Cricket was probably wagging her tail thinking they were playing when Noem lifted that shotgun and pulled the trigger. And then to say "let's kill the goat next"? I hope she continues to suffer the fallout from her depravity (and trying to profit off that depravity).

This is actually really shocking. You put a puppy up for adoption, rather than shooting it. This isn't merely a "rural thing". She's missing a couple circuits.

It is a rural thing. I was shocked to find out there are parts of the US where squirrel or coyote hunting occur. If a freaking squirrel or coyote is hunted down, I don’t think anyone from a rural area would think twice about shooting a noisy puppy to shut it up.

There are also wildlife hunting competitions that occur as well as shooting at ducks for fun. Hunting animals is a sport in the Us and for some people, they wouldn’t stop at a puppy

Imagine how scary she would be to have as a mom? Once you know what she is capable of.

And what kinds of adults are yielded by growing up in this environment??

Please don't compare a puppy to a freaking squirrel or duck.

So rural people have zero empathy for other living things? Hunting should be to provide food only. It’s not a sport. It’s sick to shoot living animals for fun.

I live in a very rural area. Anyone that shoots a puppy and is found out is having the authorities called on them. It will also be a story on the local news stations. It’s not common place and certainly not bragged about.
