Well, those who might argue that would be wrong. They're the ones who think fall and winter leagues are relevant. While not perfect, common opponent performance is obviously much more relevant. That's probably why it is used often as a tiebreaker. I've never seen last year's results used as a tiebreaker. |
Well, the PP brought up Stone Bridge who Robinson beat and Riverside hasn't even played yet. An actual common opponent result seems more relevant than one that hasn't occurred. |
Different teams match-up better or worse it all depends. Seems like if you have a very athletic defense who extends with a decent enough goalie that poses problems for Robinson. Yorktown, McLean, Stone Bridge. Just not a good match-up for them because they like to use their athleticism and spread teams out and dodge instead of running a “system.” Playoffs should be interesting if they match-up vs. Yorktown again. |
OK, keep thinking Robinson does not have an offensive "system." |
Not sure how a potential 3-way tie would be broken in this triangle, but it's often predetermined by numbers that have been drawn by the AD or Principal prior to the start of the season, or school year. Lowest number of the three would be the #1 seed, and 2nd lowest number would be #2. Not saying this is how their District handles this, but 3-way ties are much different than hed-2 head ties. |
I’d be surprised to see Yorktown play tj as anything besides a game for their backups to get good PT and show what they can do. |
Yeah, this right here. Common opponent is not a great measure as you can get into way to many factors. O vs D, goalie strengths/weaknesses, fogo matchups, injuries, when in the season played, # of games that week, who's girlfriend dumped them that week, etc etc etc. You are talking about HS kids and week to week, game to game is very different. Is there something there sure BUT |
Sure, it's not perfect, but it is better than saying we won states last year (in Class 5) and you didn't win states last year (in Class 6) so we are better. |
These riverside parents parents are something else LOL. The best way to compare the top 5A and top 6A team is having them play each other. They did… and Robinson won by 6. You can say whatever you want, that it was a scrimmage, that they didn’t have their fogo. but at the end of the day, they went head to head and robo won, by 6. |
I'm not affiliated with either team. If they both played full strength right now it would be an awesome game. No way Riverside could say with any certainty that they would beat Robinson, and vice versa. Riverside can support the claim that they are better than Madison (barely) but not Robinson. |
Robo fogo would crush Riverside fogo. |
If Riverside were 6a they would be right in the mix for the state title. Their faceoff guy is probably top dog now healthy with Robo and Hayfield fogo pushing for #2. Robo has separated from everyone given results thus far but Madison would give them fits now that they have gotten healthy. YT and Langley would love another shot as well. |
Definitely. If I were ranking them, they would be number two right behind Robinson. |
6A playoffs are going to be great. I truly believe any of Robinson, Madison, Yorktown, Langley can win it all this year. Should be some great semi final games coming in May. |
Wish we could back to the old Power Point System. Some great 2nd round matchups, amazing final four and even better Championship. Best way to determine who is the real Champion!!! |
