And this is how choosing to not vaccinate children can become a serious public health problem:

You can't get through to them, you know. You are wasting your time. They clearly don't care if their children die of the horrible diseases we vaccinate for. There is an historical ignorance about how bad these diseases are and why we created vaccines in the first place. It also shows us how poorly people understand science and the scientific method. It is a shame. |
It's not that they don't care about THEIR children - they plainly do and have made the risk calculations. They just dont care about ANYBODY ELSE's children who may be at risk but cannot get the vaccine due to compromised immune systems, access to vaccine, age or whatever. |
I heard about this study on the radio (on NPR because I am olde and it's all I listen to) but this is the kind of thing that feeds the fear, I think:

Thank you for the link. Maybe once my MIL reads this, she'll finally stop berating me for choosing to vaccinate DD! |
we must have the same MIL |
Yes. this. I was watching an interview that Frontline did with some anti-vaccinating parents. They just did not seem to understand that their decision effects the community. Here's a preview of the show I watched. |
Oh yes, OP, I'm sure by supplying some facts, you will educate people out of their position, and end the debate forevermore. Thanks for doing that. Now you can deal with The Birthers, the 9/11 conspiracy group, and the people who don't believe in the Moon Landing. Thanks for taking this on. |
Stupid people have rights too. Their ignorance is protected by the constitution. |
Measles is not a deadly disease.
Watch the Brady Bunch. All the kids come down with the measles. It was a common sickness back then. And before it's mentioned...In developing countries people are more likely to die of dehydration related to a fever from an illness than from the actual disease itself. So its actually lack of drinking water that kills them - not measles. |
See... This person is within her right to be as ignorant as humanly possible. PP- you realize the Brady Bunch is for pretend, right? |
My mother survived measles as a infant. She's fine.
|
Oh, well, if someone you know survived it, that's proof positive that there's no cause for concern.
Statistics: Learn 'em, love 'em, use 'em in your daily life. |
She also didn't have a car seat. So you could totally sell your Britax on Craig's List, I mean...your kid doesn't need it, your mom is fine. |
My cousin survived measles as a 3 year old. She's blind from it.
