PP again--you didn't specify which part of the bay--i.e. South Bay, East Bay, etc. For areas east, try Hillsborough

OP here. South Bay (if you mean south of San Jose) probably not best as Dh will be working in SF. Willing to be anywhere on the peninsula, and east bay.

Yes, Piedmont is what I meant, not Hillsborough, LOL (Hillsborough okay, but not in the east bay) If your husband will work in SF, I'd stick to Palo Alto area, or possibly Marin County, San Rafael and the like.

Sorry, I know you asked for zip codes, but...Piedmont, LaMorinda (Lafayette, Moraga, Orinda), Walnut Creek. I think that Peninsula commute is so much worse if DH is working in the City.

How old are your kids?

Husband recommended 94122. He grew up there and went to Lawton Alternative. http://www.greatschools.org/california/san-francisco/6390-Lawton-Alternative-Elementary-School/

Or just browse Great Schools for other ideas:

Albany

I have a good friend who was in Palo Alto with a kid with an IEP. They seemed pleased. Also try San Mateo, I think it's 94402. In Marin, try Ross, but it's pricy.

Thank you!

Yes, commuting from the Peninsula (traffic and/or Caltrain) or Marin (ferry and/or traffic) is definitely trickier. Commuting from the East Bay (BART) is the easiest, especially if in Piedmont. I would factor in commute time, even if public schools are your #1 priority. Also, you don't state if cost is an issue, so I'm assuming it's not. Agree with recommendations above for public schools, though they are not my favorite communities in the Bay Area. Some areas of Oakland have really public elementary schools. SF and Berkeley have lotteries for public schools, which can be VERY stressful, and in SF, you could wind up with a big commute just to drop kids off. Berkeley is less stressful, though IMO, there are other downfalls to the system there. People seem to like Albany schools as well.
