Merchan’s daughter, a Democratic political consultant, has posted a photo on social media of Trump behind bars. An account appearing to belong to Loren Merchan on X, formerly known as Twitter, has a photo illustration of an imprisoned Trump as its profile picture. Loren Merchan’s consulting firm had linked to that account in a previous social media post.
His lawyers are allowed to ask to get a new judge assigned on that basis. He is not allowed to discuss her.
Judge Merchan ruled against recusing himself from the case in August, after Trump’s lawyers filed a motion in May that argued his daughter’s political consulting work for Authentic Campaigns created a conflict of interest. Authentic Campaigns describes itself as a “full-service digital strategy company that works for progressives who are ready to run innovative and unique digital campaigns.”

My bff the constitution said that Americans have free speech, even when the judge’s daughter has a million dollar grift and her judge father clearly has a conflict of interest he’s attempting to obfuscate.

The judge has a serious conflict of interest.
He should have filed for a change in venue or judge. You don’t go to social media and put it on blast to your followers who have a history of harassing people to his benefit.
There are rules and procedures and we are a nation of laws. He wants to be above them but he is not.

How is the judge pretending to be above the law? There are procedures to request a change if Trump feels he can’t get a fair trial. But instead of following rules and procedures, he went to twitter. Makes him look unhinged and vindictive rather than seeking fairness.

They don’t have the right to sic their followers on the judges family. And that’s what Trump hoped to accomplish in order to intimidate the judge.

So you would be fine with having your trial judge’s daughter make millions off of people who hate you personally and professionally? And your trial judge’s daughter has a picture of you behind bars as her pfp on twitter, you would think that you would receive a fair and impartial trial?
DP This is not the argument. Defendants can ask for a new judge or venue. But there is a PROCESS and PROCEDURE for this and whining and doxxing the family members of the judge on social media is NOT how that’s done. His attorneys file motions for this.

He named a member of the judges family in a public forum for attention and to anger his base. He has a history of doing this to encourage his base to harass people on his behalf. Very serious, when will the investigation start? We need to find out about that twitter account. I am sure the judge and his daughter will cooperate fully.

So someone has assumed this woman’s twitter account by hacking and no one is worried? She works with the Biden administration and it’s fine someone has hacked her twitter? It could be Putin or Russians, we really need to investigate now for her safety and security.
No. No one “hacked” anything.
She dropped her account the year before. Deleted it. Done. Not using it, and no longer associated with it.
A year later her dad was assigned the case against Trump, at which point some troll takes over the abandoned (and open to anyone) Twitter handle.
I’m not a lawyer, so I have no idea what their criminal liability would be, or if there is any.
