where are you getting your turkey this year?

We get our turkey from Trader Joes. We got one of those fance free-range turkeys one year and we can't tell the difference, other than the cost! Also TJ's has kosher birds (in addition to regular birds) which have already been brined, if you want to go that route.

I second the thought of a Trader Joe's already brined turkey.

Don't know where you live but if you live near an Amish Market, their turkeys are great.

For me, i am going the local free-range route because a) it's only 1.99/lb and b) although I have no problem eating the bird, I am more satisfied that the birds' short life was a seemingly happy one wandering around its farm. Really doesn't have anything to do with taste - although I have heard that the Maple Farms are yummy, nonetheless. Also, philosophically, when possible and not cost-prohibitive, I like to go the local route for a range of reasons that go from ecological to economical.

Curious why you would buy an Oregon bird for $7 a lb, when you can get similar local birds for about half that?

Are MOMs turkeys already brined? Or do they taste great without?
