But how do we know what Roseann was thinking when she sent that tweet out? She obviously doesn't like VJ, she may have been looking at a picture of her and lashing out on her overall appearance. The fact that she knew VJ was African American may not have played a part in thinking she looked like she was from Planet of the Apes. |
If Rosanne follows right wing media closely enough to know that Valerie was born in Iran (which was news to me), she certainly knew that she was AA. |
OP here. I have to say that I think Roseanne most likely DID know that VJ is African-American, but I don't think that was the inspiration for the Planet of the Apes comment. Normally, I would definitely think that a comment like that about a women who is described as African American would have been inspired by racism. But looking at her picture sheds a different light on it. |
Then you haven't been paying much attention to national politics. Roseanne has. She has no excuse and you are silly for following this line of thought. Do you go around calling random white people apes? |
Op you are racist. Shut your pie hole. |
|
Why just automatically say that? Stop and really think about it. Look at VJ's picture. When you look at it objectively it does seem rather possible that the comment was not made for the reason that everyone would otherwise naturally assume. |
You are treading on pretty dangerous ground with your repeated insistence that Jarrett looks like an ape. You clearly don't have the excuse of not knowing that she is black. You probably want to tone that down a bit if you don't want to be called names. |
OMG, because now here YOU are saying Valerie Jarrett looks like an ape and you KNOW that she is black. So you think Roseanne could plead ignorance (which she DIDN'T) but you aren't racist for saying the same damn thing?? I cannot believe that this is what we've been reduced to: discussing when it's appropriate to call people apes. HINT: NEVER. |
DP. I am a political junky and I didn't know VJ is African American until this week. (I had thought VJ and Huma have middle eastern background.) VJ is a behind the scene type of aid. Being African American is not the first or second thing when you talk about VJ. Regardless ABC has very right to fire her. |
I just checked her photo in the link provided upthread. To me, she is pretty (I don't get the Planet of the Apes comparison at all), but she does look white.
She also has the same birthday as my sister. Live and learn! |
Look, I have said previously that I hate to say that but in light of the topic I kind of have to and I think she is attractive nontheless. Just like many people say SJP looks like a horse but she is still attractive. I have also said that the features that I believe make her look like that are not features that most would equate with African Americans. In fact, I don't think her features look particularly African American. |
What are the features that make a person look African-American? Do they all look the same to you? Because when I see African-Americans, i see a wide array of features. |
Just stop. Jeff, please delete this thread. This poster is trying to normalize what Roseanne tweeted and to soft pedal it by claiming that she finds Valerie Jarrett pretty even though it's true she looks like Planet of the Apes. We need to be better than this. |
OP, you should have stopped with your first post. Now you're saying that VJ is an attractive ape who just happens to be AA, and that it should be fine to say that. It's not. Just stop. |
