This story demonstrates a few things.....
1. The media did not cover the undocumented immigrants adequately when Obama was in office. 2. The media is holding the Trump administration to a different standard. 3. The media is displaying their bias in their haste to delete the tweets/photos once it had been revealed when they were taken. Many of us knew all this was true. Nice to see it on full display. |
I would love to see every liberal who is outraged with the condition of these children to adopt at least one. This way you will improve these children's' life significantly, and this would give them the pass to the legal citizenship (for those who are not born here). I think this will be so much more productive than what government is trying to do. |
Yes, yes, and yes. How embarrassing for them. |
Ever heard of Ellis Island? Angel Island? Legal immigration channels? Give US a break. https://www.nationalreview.com/2018/05/legal-immigrants-vs-illegal-immigrants-cutting-line/ America’s most forgotten men and women may be the legal immigrants who acquire their visas, scale no barriers, and patiently await their green cards and citizenship ceremonies. Amid the raging DACA debates, the fugitive-city outrages, and this week’s Honduran-caravan epic at the San Diego–Tijuana border, these overlooked individuals ring America’s doorbell rather than pry open the back entrance. “I am stunned,” says Nayla Rush, a senior researcher with the Center for Immigration Studies. She is staggered by the caravan members who waved Honduran flags atop America’s border fence. U.S. authorities arrested 29 of them for illegal entry. Those fleeing Tegucigalpa’s chaos have no right to barge into the U.S. Likewise, if El Salvador, Guatemala, and Nicaragua — contiguous to Honduras — and nearby Mexico feel no duty to welcome these migrants, why on Earth is this America’s obligation? "In stark contrast to those who pole-vault over and tunnel under America’s southern border, Rush says, “I came here legally, waited my turn, filed documents, paid for my applications, and abided by and respected the laws of this great country. I am thankful I was given this opportunity to be here, and I try to be worthy of this trust every day.” |
I agree that it was terribly that unaccompanied children were treated that way during the Obama administration. I didn't know about it and if I had I would have protested it.
But I think it is even worse to separate children from their parents the way the Trump administration is doing. The Trump administration does not have to separate the children from the parents. They could keep the family units together. It's not like separating the families saves US tax dollars or something-- it likely costs MORE money to do it this way. They aren't doing this to save money, they are doing it because it is so punitive and painful that they want to send a message. They are using the pain of these families as a pawn. |
Trump’s president; time to pay attention and have an opinion and worry about “the children.” |
how exactly do you adopt children who have parents?
Foster, maybe. But adopt? My friend adopted 2 girls from guatemala. She had to wait TWO YEARS to legally adopt one of them because mom was off the grid and paperwork couldn't be legally filed without her signature |
Honest question - if illegals are caught at the border, why can’t they just be turned away/deported immediately? Why do they have to be processed at all? I don’t think kids and parents should be separated, I think they should be turned away together, and without delay. |
You know it's very easy to avoid, right? If they want to claim asylum, they can go to a port of entry and claim it there. That way there isn't a charge of illegal entry held against them. |
Nailed it. |
But if they do that, they can still be detained. |
+1 |
