Interesting to see the 8 and up FCPS HSs break away from the 6 and unders. That seems to pretty much correspond to what people, consider the "good high schools".

You should sell your house immediately because Great Schools scores are EVERYTHING!!!! They determine your self-worth and your child's intelligence and whether or not you're a decent person. My heart goes out to you for such a awful, painful ordeal OP.

Stfu! Are you always this obnoxious?

Haha i love her. So many of these moms are ridiculous for basing their life and worth on greatschools ratings.

Are all HSs pushed down 1 rating because they need to make TJ a 10 and need to differentiate between TJ and everything else? It's more like a state ranking/tiers right, instead of true rating. Which is why you can't compare across states.

Don't worry, Yorktown blows them all away in the latest Challenge Index

Yorktown and W-L score high in terms of the average number of AP or IB classes taken by graduating seniors. They don't do as well in terms of the percentage who both take and pass an AP or IB exam - look at the "E&E" ratings published with the Challenge Index.

What? I don't understand what you are meaning about rankings?
TJ is the only 10 in FFX APS etc, because it is much further a head of the pack. Your school can't be a 10 in comparison.

Not really.
More likely people people reinforce these ratings by looking them before purchasing a home. The schools are likely not doing anything different. I'm very suspicious that the experience is significantly different between 6's and 8's.

Punching above weight: Marshall, Chantilly, Lake Braddock, Washington-Lee, Annandale

Punching below weight: South County, Herndon (I know some people think Yorktown punches below its weight, but a GS 7 is about what you'd expect for a school with about 15% FARMS, no magnet program, and a low Asian enrollment).

I agree that the rating corresponds to the general perception. The 8s and above including McLean and Oakton are good. The 6s inclduing fairfax, centreville, south lakes, etc. are just OK. The 5 and below are not as desirable.
