Agree 200%.

I think the OP's parents did the right thing for him. The tone of his post sounds extremely immature. OP, it's clear they gave you what they thought you needed. From your post, it sounds like they were absolutely correct.

Wow...just wow.
I think OP's parents did everyone a favor too.

Where did you grow up were it was illegal for an 18 yr old to date a 17 yr old. At least today, most states require an age gap greater than 2-4 yrs, and many have age of consents less than 18.

The theory of proximal learning is a good reason not to redshirt. Just saying.

Vygotsky. Look him up!

Long time k teacher, very familiar with vygotsky and his work...still had my August birthday child wait the extra year. Parents know their kids best.

I thought OP was going to link to a study. His one bad experience hasn't convinced me.

In my speriebce the red shirters win by gaming the system.

This isn't a case against redshirting. This is just a case for therapy. Good luck, OP.

OP, you have a whiny personality and now you've found something to blame all your problems on. If they hadn't redshirted, you would have found some other fault. Pretty sad.

Or, don't redshirt because the research shows it doesn't work and can actually backfire.

OMG this is the buggest problem you had in life?!

More kids redshirt now, so a lot of the issues you mention would not be as big of a deal.

I'm really sorry you couldn't go out drinking with your friends when you turned 21. That must have been traumatic.

Redshirting is stupid and should be illegal unless the child is retarded

My kid's doing very well. He's in 2nd grade and is the star pupil.

Not every kid is the same.

Retarded isn't used any longer. But I'm considering the source.
