He committed treason. He deserves to die.

Actions have consequences. He left his FOB of his own accord and PUT HIMSELF INTO THE HANDS OF HIS CAPTORS.

He had a duty to stay at his FOB and do his job.

People who serve, like myself, my spouse, and our son, as well as the American people, should see him stand trial.

he should never ever have been accepted as a soldier. Put him in psych care, and have a strong talk with his recruiters. No pardon, it'd be bad optics

A strong talk with his recruiters? Recruiters are only Recruiters for 2-3 years. There's a huge chance his Recruiters are retired, and they def. aren't Recruiters anymore. How are they responsible for his actions during war? He's an adult man.

Also, why isn't he in psych care? He's been promoted since his release. Are you saying Bergdahl is mentally ill on active duty?

The recruiters accepted him AFTER the coast guard put him out on psychological grounds. I'd talk to all recruiters about due diligence, and not accepting just any warm body to meet quota

"Bergdahl joined the Army in 2008 at the height of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. In that same year, the Army War College reported that as many as one in five recruits was allowed to enlist with a waiver for health or other reasons, including arrest records."

At that time lots of people received waviers to join. It was known and accepted. Bergdahl is the only guy who abandoned his post and f-d his unit and our entire Military in AFG.

His recruiters did not do anything the Army recruiting command was unaware of. Waivers were handed out to get bodies in uniforms. They went by the rules in place at the time. Going after his recruiter shows what a non existent grasp you have on military recruiting procedure AND that you are willing to blame this traitor's actions on ANYONE but the guy who did these things: Bowe Bergdahl.

i hope this loser stays in jail for the rest of his life, or we give him back to the taliban in a trade for an old car stereo or a goat or something. it sucks Obama even bothered to get him back. what a waste of fuel to pick him up, not to mention the lives he endangered/cost.

The Obama administration believes in second chances. They've affirmed this repeatedly.

Bergdahl will be pardoned.

giving waivers for ingrown toenails and whatever Trump used to get out of vietnam is one thing, as is turning a blind eye to shoplifting or underage weed smoking....accepting for the ARMY a guy who was red flagged by the coast guard is a whole different level...No disrespect to the coast guard intended, but it's a different level with foreign war deployments...

During the height of the Iraq war many types of waviers were given. Recruiters don't make up their own waviers, it's handed down from Recruiting Command. Bergdahl received a waiver and his Recruiters only did the paperwork and submitted the paperwork. They themselves cannot approve or disapprove the waiver.

Bowe Bergdahl was discharged from the coast guard in 2006, a few weeks after he joined. His separation was labeled an uncharacterized discharge, which is common for recruits who wash out within the first 180 days of service, while they are still considered entry level. Most of these separations occur within the first three months of service. The coast guard can let someone go for a number of reasons, but a few common ones are failed medical and physical standards; adjustment disorders; and fraudulent enlistments, like if someone deliberately omitted a crime on his or her record or left out a medical condition that could compromise his or her abilities.
