Hemnes series from Ikea - how's the quality?

We have two 8 drawer hemnes dressers. My husband put one together by himself except needed a hand at the end for a couple minutes. Together we assembled the other one with no issues. We are not handy people either. I love the white!

Why??

They require the assembly company to screw the dresser into the wall after assembly to secure it and the assembly company that IKEA contracts with in this area (and elsewhere) refuses to secure the dresser to plaster walls. So if you have plaster walls, they will refuse to assemble it. They will only assemble in a room with drywall. It was literally the most idiotic experience I've ever had with IKEA.

OP here. This is what I hate about the Malm dresser we have... it's like a particleboard bottom that pops out - admittedly I shove far too many gym shorts and pajamas in there... but still. Hemnes has the same bottom? I need to head to Ikea this weekend and check it out.

Question for those who used the assembly service - how much did they charge you? Is it by number of items, purchase amount, etc? I'd totally be willing to spend $200 to have someone build this stuff.

Two guys assembled both dressers in about 45 minutes. Totally worth the cost! We also purchased the large hemnes wall mirror and hung it horizontally above the long dresser. It's about the same length as the dresser. We have a small room, and the large mirror really reflects a lot of light.

Thanks! This is a good idea - we could use a mirror on that wall above the dresser.

then you probably assembled it incorrectly.

It's by the total cost of the items you want assembled.

I did the same thing and it looks really good.

BUT

I have moved a lot and the dressers do not hold up well, especially the 8 drawer side by side version. the drawers frequently become stuck. I am saving up to buy some real furniture.

have the smaller red dresser in my son's room and the bottom drawer sags and pops out all the time. wouldn't recommend the dressers. Also have the white twin bed and it has been fine.

Have white dresser. Paint chips. Have only had since June 2014- light use.

Same thing happened with our dresser drawers. Agree it's a PITA to get them back in.

We need a new dresser for my 10 YO daughter - we were thinking of the Hemnes - and recent experiences?

Frustrating, yes.

Idiotic, no. There are real concerns about this.

Got one for my sons room when he was 3, and he's 7 now. We moved once. It has a couple of small dings, I believe because it's a softer wood, but otherwise is great shape and I love the layout of the drawers - very functional for our needs.

I only buy solid wood furniture from Ikea. We have been very happy with the Hemnes line - none of it has fallen apart, despite years of kid usage. Of course we didn't buy the non-wood white version (different from white stain, which is solid wood).
